Cecile Maddox Penton

Cecile Maddox Penton, “Ma”, 94, of Milton, ended her earthly journey on Friday, December 25, 2015, following a brief illness. She was born in Covington County, Alabama, but lived most of her life in the Allentown Community of Santa Rosa County, where she was the cornerstone of a large and loving family, and a respected member of the community.
She was the daughter of John B. and Euphemia Miller Maddox, sister of Clayton, Winford, Opal, Dale, and Fay, and wife of James “Jim” Penton, all who preceded her in death.
Those who continue her legacy on Earth are her children, Joyce Penton Schnoor (Col. Dean F., deceased), Anita Penton Fields (James Grover Penton, deceased), Anne Penton Pinckard (Jack), Kathy Penton Moore (Ed), and Aubrey C. Penton (Kathy). She leaves behind grandchildren, Wanda Sagebiel (Chuck), Mike Kelly (Erica), Jeff Schnoor (Claire), Greg Schnoor (Lisa), Jimmy Penton (Cheryl), Pam Morgan (Darrell), Jacqueline Wiscaver (Jay), Donna Owens (Garry), Larry Moore (Petra), Laura Moore Lewis, Corie Stull (Glen), Kristi Nowling (Brian), Katie Wolfe (Ryan), and Kimmy Hudon, Rick Schnoor (Cathy), Randy Schnoor (Jan), Chris Schnoor, (Carrie), Sara Sullivan (Danny), Lisa Gibson (John), and Julie Schnoor, 47 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters-in-law and brother-in law, Elmira Penton (Gilbert, deceased), Christine Penton Lockett, Opal Johnson, and Nick Davis.
Mrs. Penton was a life-long lover of nature and enjoyed many outdoor activities including gardening, bird watching, fishing and camping. She loved to travel, and often liked to point out that she had “stepped her foot in all fifty of the United States of America.” She also traveled to several countries in Europe, and had many adventures to talk about. Cecile was a proud member of Pineview United Methodist Church, DAR, and The United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 29, at 2:00 p.m., at Pineview United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jim Lassiter and Reverend Ronnie Bearden officiating.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to funeral services.
A graveside service will follow at the church cemetery.
Music for the service will be provided by Gavin Wiscaver, Kevin Holland, Taylor Moore, and Ryian Stull.
Honorary pallbearers are Clifton Lassiter, Berlon McCreless, Sandy Wyatt, Charles Holland, Marque Hendrix, and her nephews, Nick Morrow, Glenn Bell, Jack Bell, Daniel Maddox, and Ray Maddox.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons Jimmy Penton, Darrell Morgan, Larry Moore, Mike Kelley, Jeff Schnoor, and Greg Schnoor.
Inactive pallbearers will be Chuck Sagebiel, Jay Wiscaver, Garry Owens, and Glen Stull.
The outpouring of support from the community in the form of prayers, visits, cards, food and flowers is greatly appreciated. A special thank you goes to Dr. David Smith and Covenant Hospice for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pineview United Methodist Church or Covenant Hospice.
