Atmore Man Charged With Attacking Elderly Victim In Shopping Center

December 21, 2015

An Atmore man has been charged with attacking an elderly man in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Pensacola shopping center.

Thomas Matthew Nall, 30, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on a charge of felony aggravated battery on a person 65-years of age or older. He was released from jail on $2,000 bond.

Numerous witnesses told the Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies that they observed Nall, a passenger in a pickup truck, punching the driver repeatedly while the truck was stopped in the Academy Sports parking lot on North Davis Highway. Witnesses pulled Nall out of the pickup truck as they awaited the arrival of deputies.

According to an arrest report, Nall said the victim is controlling and ordered him to place the packages the two had just purchased at Academy Sport into the pickup truck in a certain order. Nall said the victim controls his finances.

Then, according to the ECSO report, Nall began to speak about satanic organizations and that his family is responsible for numerous murders.

The victim refused treatment on the scene from Escambia County EMS. The arrest report does not specify the relationship between Nall and the victim.

I am sn elderly lady of 81yrs.. l am sure I get on peoples nerves but I bend over to try not to. I am not allowed to drive for health reasons. I csn not think of one good reason for beating up anyone but especially an elderly person..

Someone i know was convicted of battery upon elderly, although they never physically touched the person and is currently serving a 15 year sentence

I went to school with Matthew. He was a very nice and quiet guy. He was most certainly mentally impaired in some capacity though. His parents were always very much controlling of his life, although none of that absolves him of the charges, if true.

@ Possum Sparks, it is a felony because it was battery on the elderly. The kid does appear to have mental health issues based upon my experience. Seems to be unstable and in need of medication

Sounds like Mr. Nall may have mental issues. But, instead of locking him up for a long time [Jane], how about some compassion? What Mr. Nall likely needs iis psychothreapy and medication(s) to control his brain chemicals.

Also, who cares what order bags are put in a vehicle? Perhaps Mr. Nall finally snapped after hours of button-pushing-abuse from “the victim.” I don’t condone punching the guy – but we’ve all been pushed to the brink at least once.

What if he was telling the truth about the murders. There are two sides to every story.

I hope they lock him up for a long time! i bet this is not the first time this has happened. Many seniors won’t press charges or are afraid to report abuse.

Sounds like the rantings of a psychiatric patient or good ol’spice. Yeah let’s legalize all drugs (insert sarcasm).

Sounds like Thomas might have some of those emotional “issues”. Still inexcusable for a 30 yr. old man to whack-around an elderly man. Not too sporting.

The culprit seems indeed fortunate that an Escambia Co. arraignment Judge saw fit to release him on a paltry $2000 bond. Folks who physically abuse children and the elderly are deserving of much harsher treatment.

I only hope that the punishment for this sort of action exceeds the level of the bond. Is this sort of thing considered a misdemeanor here?
