I agree totally with Terry Scott!!!!!!
If DOT would place the East bound and West bound Hwy 97 lights on the opposite sides of Hwy 29 we might be able to see them after we stop. Also DOT needs to ban left turns into Tom Thumb from Hwy 97.
I believe someone should build a convenience store on the east side of the road.
Without seeing the accident or the report, who knows.
I will say that as far as the light goes, north and south bound on Hwy 29 is laid out pretty well.
However I believe the interns must have designed the Hwy 97 crossing. The lights are directly over head, there are no turn lights and no sign stating “Left Turn Yield on Green”, although that should be understood. From what I’ve seen those turning left from 97 east bound to 29 north bound, just assume they have the right of way. So if your crossing 29 west bound on 97, watch out.
As much as you try, you still can’t fix stupid.
Ya know, this accident could have nothing to do with the red light or even a stop sign at that intersection.
And/or one vehicle may have exited the Tom Thumb, etc. and forgot to turn on their lights soon enough, etc.
And the other turned left because they did not see the un lit vehicle.
Everytime i go through this intersection now it seems that there is almost an accident people trust the light since it was supposed to stop all accidents
Oh i sure am glad redlights stop crashes!
@Imn When northbound Hwy 29 a car turns left onto 97 and there is already backed up traffic waiting to on 97 to turn left into the Tom Thumb—said car is caught in the intersection and gets hit by a Hwy 29 southbound vehicle. I would make better and safer entrance to Tom Thumb if DOT would make a dedicated northbound left turn lane BEFORE getting to the intersection. A north bound car could pull into that left turn lane and wait until the light is red, then cross the south bound lane and go safely into the southernmost entrance of Tom Thumb. Also make it “No turns on red” on 97 eastbound.
As for as I have heard this is the FIRST accident since the light went up. Prior to that there was probably of an average of about one at least every two weeks or more often. It has helped!!
OMG!!! The redlight that everyone thought was the miracle to stopping these accidents! SMH!!!
Wait, is not there a redlight at this intersection now?
Glad there’s a traffic light there to prevent these type of accidents (sarcasm)
So much for the traffic light eliminating accidents at that intersection.
Imagine that! The light didn’t seem to do its job. Maybe it is and has always been the operator of the vehicles responsibility for their own safety. Kinda like blaming a gun for killing somebody and not the person pulling the trigger. Too soon for sarcasm?
Not the interception with the new traffic light that was going to cure all of the vehicle accidents????
This intersection is still a mess. There are drivers that are making U turns from the northbound lane to get into the Tom Thumb instead of making the turn onto 97 and turning into the Tom Thumb from 97.
It was NOT me. But prayers to whoever it is.
so now that there is a traffic light, who are you going to blame it on?

I was under the impression that the new light fixed all this. Mmmmmmm
I can’t believe that the new stop light didn’t work.
