Escambia Parks And Rec Takes Over Davisville Community Center

November 28, 2015

Escambia County Parks and Recreation has now taken over the rental responsibilities of the county-owned Davisville Community Center.

The rentals were previously handled by a small community association; however, county officials say that organization became very inactive the past few years.

The facility rents for $35 per day plus tax ($37.63 total) for the dining room using kitchen appliances, $35 per day plus tax ($37.63 total) for the front multi-purpose room, plus a $25 cleaning and damage deposit. For more information, contact Escambia County Parks and Recreation at (850) 475-5220.

The Byrneville Community Center, Inc. has also been taken over by Escambia Parks and Recreation..unlike the Davisville Center..Byrneville’s Center has stayed active and had a board made up of commumity members to see over daily activities and events .When the time to renew our lease came in Oct. 2015…we were notified by Escambia County Commissioner Steve Barry of the change and the board would no longer be needed. It was a shock to the board and the community but it was done….we have worked with parks and recreation to help make the transition as smooth as possible. I have kept the calender of events for many years and have made long time friends with so many people…the question most people ask is why..In a phone conversation with Mr. Barry.. I ask why..he says he wants to help take the center into the future and offer the community more things…such as Internet to be able to go on line and search for jobs etc.We hope this plan will only help the center.Polly Gandy had a dream and it came true…there have been so many people that gave their prayers, time and money to bring the center where it is today….it is a great place where friends and family come together to celebrate the day….and when they leave ..they take with them memories to cherish…if you have used the center or plan to… you may call Adam Reed or Michael Rhodes (850-475-5220) they are with Parks and Recreations…they are also two very nice people that will do all they can to help you. I am Betty Porz..your calender lady and a member of the Board of Directors for Byrneville Community Center, Inc.

I’m sooo glad to hear this~ the ones, locally, who would have loved to help with this are no longer able to take care of it…it’s too nice of a place to abandon when sooo many like to use it for family gatherings…this place has a special place in my heart as well as for many others…we are blessed to have access to such a ’special’ place…thank you Parks and Recreation for keeping the ‘doors’ open!
