Woman Facing Felony Charge For Stealing Gas

October 29, 2015

A Walnut Hill woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly being involved in the theft of gas from a vehicle in Bratt.

Kristin Nicole Guinto, 20, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, a third degree felony, and petit theft. She was released from the Escambia County Jail.

Guinto was among three suspects that allegedly left a parked vehicle at the Travis Nelson Park on West Highway 4 in Bratt and walked to a nearby home to steal gas. A homeowner reported that he heard his dog barking and spotted someone running back toward the vehicle in the park. The homeowner found a small amount of fuel had been siphoned from his pickup truck.

Later that day, deputies responded to the park to find the parked vehicle with Guinto and another suspect inside. In the trunk of the vehicle, deputies found several pieces of cut garden hose and a fuel tank, according to an arrest report.

The following day, deputes were called back to the home where the gas was stolen. The homeowner reported finding a large kitchen knife in his yard, along the path were he had observed the suspects running away.

Another suspect in the case has not yet been arrested, according to jail records, and the other suspect is a juvenile.

I know no one is gonna believe me cause of some stupid stuff I did for a few months ago for my brother. But I did not steal the gas. Nor was I apart of it. And that’s on my other brothers grave. The guy who actually did steal it , his finger print was lifted. He told me to pop my trunk so he could put his stuff in my car . on everything I believed it was just clothes and stuff. But no. It wasn’t so when me and my friend stopped at the park after the incident happened we were going to call the cops and tell them what happened. But by then they were at the park searched my car and found it my car. And that’s the god honest truth. So for everyone bashing me. Believe me if you want. But I know what happened and so does my friend who was with me.

How is this a felony? If driving while liscense is suspended is a felony this better be.

Locking gas caps…yes! Lock your car doors, lock your house doors, get a dog, turn on a couple light bulbs. No, I am not condoning gas stealing or whatever but making it harder to steal may prevent someone from getting shot.

This is only a thought, I saw a girl walking with a gas can & there was not a store less than 11/2 -2 mile near there & her car was nowhere in sight either for that matter, not saying that the one I saw was gonna steal but it was closer to Caraway Rd or the next one up from there, walking toward Coopers, or should I say Gilleys, still don’t know why she hasn’t been caught unless someone is still protecting her out of denial, stupidity or what have you, but they want to accuse & judge others. Go figure

Maybe this will be a wake up call for her. Better she got caught and will be facing some time as opposed to getting shot by a resident defending their property. Oh, and if she gets a job, magically in appr. 14 days, money will appear. Just sayin.

This is quite funny, i know her. and she lives right beside the Travis Nelson park. So glad i got away from that crowd and moved onto bigger and better things to better my future. Some people will never learn.

Check her record. She was just picked up a month or so ago for theft and booked in Escambia County Florida. Public records folks.

Why don’t they get a job and they won’t have to steal what people work hard for.

Actually, it says they caught her sitting in a vehicle NOT that she was doing anything wrong. At that age, you sit in a lot of vehicles that don’t belong to you and chances are that some of them were involved in some way with something you don’t want to be associated with. It’s entirely possible, based on the article, that she was not involved. Nowhere did it state that she was identified as one of the people running from the scene. For that matter, the article doesn’t state that those who ran from the home actually went TO the vehicle only in that direction. Also, if the items that connected THE VEHICLE to the attempted crime were locked in the trunk…how do you know that she knew they were there?

There are many questions still to be answered here. Some are too quick to jump to conclusions instead of actually reading the facts presented. And, no, I don’t know this girl. I just have enough sense to read and think about what I read before I condemn.

    All criminals start somewhere
All receive a wake up call and some answer
Hopefully this young person will , I bet she has more to offer the world than this.

Felony charge is ridiculous. Bad decision not worth ruining someone’s life over. How can this even be a felony. Pure crazy stuff.Theives not felons.

@ Natalie – you commented ” Funny how they say it was her without proof.” Please see the nice article William has written, especially the following part, “Later that day, deputies responded to the park to find the parked vehicle with Guinto and another suspect inside. In the trunk of the vehicle, deputies found several pieces of cut garden hose and a fuel tank, according to an arrest report.” I would say they caught your friend with the evidence of the crime, wouldn’t you? Unless you have never watched the ole television and seen someone stealing gas. So I would say we ain’t being “being petty”. WE can read.

They are lucky they got Caught instead of Shot!

  16. chris on October 29th, 2015 12:12 pm

@CW: some thieves will steal even though they possess the means to pay for what they are taking.

  17. Natalie on October 29th, 2015 11:22 am

This is honestly petty.. Kristin is my friend, and shes been around me most of the time. Funny how they say it was her without proof.

    REGARDING:
“I think a felony charge is extreme..”

    PLEASE CONSIDER:
Repeated thefts of what others worked for.
Vehicles disabled by theft of fuel.
Unable to leave in case of emergency.
    Violation of your home.
Risk of fire and loss of life and other property.
Armed with knife to kill if caught.

Felony charges sound reasonable to me.

    David for better people

Paul- A felony charge for all involved is very fitting. If they were to admit just how much gas was stolen from folks over a couple year period I imagine it’s in the thousands. That’s how long it’s been going on around here.

  20. Trisha on October 29th, 2015 10:43 am

$1.85????? Where are you buying your gas?

  21. CW on October 29th, 2015 10:24 am

Really? Last I looked gas was around $1.85 a gallon. She couldn’t scrape up a few bucks?

  22. Q on October 29th, 2015 10:13 am

    Haha haha got emm

  23. Parker on October 29th, 2015 8:55 am

I’m glad these kids were finally caught. It’s been happening quite awhile. There is no telling how many gallons that was supplied from my farm truck till I got locking gas caps. My neighbor lost 2 tanks worth also. I sure would like to know what kind of vehicle they were sitting in. I ran one off parked down from my house at 3am one morning and got their tag number. I will testify. This girl graduated with my son and now this charge will follow her the rest of her life. Very poor decision on her part.

  24. paul on October 29th, 2015 8:00 am

As much as I can’t stand a thief, I think a felony charge is extreme..

This is the horrible decision of someone that should be a role model in the softball community !
