No Honor: Thieves Caught On Camera Stealing From Local Farmer

October 9, 2015

Two thieves apparently had no honor when it came to stealing deer corn being sold on the honor system by  a Walnut Hill farmer.

About 6:30 Tuesday morning, the two men stopped at the farmer’s roadside bin on South Highway 99. They can be seen on surveillance video checking an honor box for cash and then loading up two bags of deer corn without making payment.

Both suspects are described as white males. One walked with a slight limp and appeared to be wearing some type of identification around his neck, similar to an employee badge. They were in an extended cab pickup with a camper shell. Both the camper shell and truck appeared to be red or maroon in color. The passenger rear-view mirror on the truck showed obvious damage.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

The complete surveillance video is at the bottom of this page.

I don’t see where anything was stolen.

Great pictures and video. However, I don’t see enough evidence here to convict these guys in a headline of a newspaper. Let’s not chop their heads off just yet till we get all the details. IMHO.

some body knows these bad old boys and you need to turn them in.
if they will steal deer corn, they will steal anything.

Footage looked good to me. Camera 3 showed honor box and if anyone put money in it, where did it go? I’m sure the cameras are still running.

Id say you need some better footage before you start accusing somebody of stealing it looks like to me that on camera 03 that they probably paid right before he picked up second bag or at least acted like it.

Why does a farmer have better video of his robbers than the banks?

    Geez only $5.00 a bag… dirt bags.

Need tag number from vehicle. Move the corn or the camera so the car tag is in the frame. Smile , you are on candid camera.

Great camera system ! Wish I knew what brand name.
    Way to go.

Fantastic security camera footage. Please do an article on that or have the farmer let us know. Yes he did have a level of trust but is obviously prepared to act if that trust has been violated. Help us learn from that. I’d like to install one. So many surveillance photo are poor.

I expect this crap from kids/ teenagers… not from adults. When caught, Please, @northescambia.com, publish the names of these offenders.

In life when dealing with others…it boils down to two terms about honesty and pregnancy.
You either are or you’re not! This theft would be classified a petit theft, but to steal
    from someone…anything…makes one feel violated.
    Sage 2 for honesty! :-) )

should be any easy find on that truck. Broken mirror and it’s still got the factory steel chromed wheels on it with a center cap missing from the right front. Hope they find the dirt bags.

Looks like a dog in the front seat on a couple of pics.

This is sad to see, Wesley and Mr. Wendel are very nice and work hard. The corn they sell is the cheapest priced around the area. If these people stoop to stealing minor things such as this, one has to wonder what else illigle they are doing…just saying.

What’s as bad as the crime itself,is their arrogance of the crime …Most thieves are in and out very quickly, but these two took their sweet time stealing from this farmer, who uses the honor system. He(the farmer) is probably the type of man who believes people will do the honorable thing. Sadly, this isnt the case here at all…

  20. willis on October 9th, 2015 8:01 am

This one should be solved quickly.
By use of the camera the farmer obviously knew the honor system would not be fool proof.

Pic with driver getting into truck and passenger walking up to his door, there is a third person in front passenger seat!

I hate to see this. Mr. Eicher is one of the nicest men you will ever meet, and is trusting enough to have an honor system so that you can get corn at your convenience. Hopefully these low-life’s are caught and learn a lesson

The guys that is limping I’m pretty sure that’s a casino players club card. I bet you could comare surveillance from wind creek if he’s been there that night a d figure out who they are.

Some folks seem to think that the only people’s finances that matter are their own.
