Motorcycle Hits Tate High School Band Bus, Flees Scene

October 25, 2015

The Florida Highway Patrol is still searching for a motorcyclist that slammed into a school bus loaded with Tate High band members early Saturday morning.

Members of the Tate High Showband of the South were on several buses returning from an away football game. At Highway 87 and High School Boulevard in Navarre, the driver of a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle attempted a U-turn and struck the rear of the bus driven by Jackie Carnley of Milton.

After the collision, the driver of the motorcycle fled the scene on foot. The passenger on the motorcycle, 29-year old Donna G. Williams of Navarre, was transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with minor injures.

There were 51 total passengers — 43 minors and eight adults — on the school bus. None of of them were injured.

The accident remains under investigation by the FHP.

As a band parent we need to give recognition to the wonderful bus drivers, that made the best out of bad situation(s). The two staff members (teachers) (bus drivers) from Tate did an outstanding job supporting the band. After the break down, wreck and other issues they demonstrated clear professionalism throughout the entire trip. I hope that school administration will give them praise for their hard work. Several band parents discussed their hard work. Also, Mr. Philly was great as always.

Idiot. How do you hit a bus on a motorcycle? And gonna leave your girlfriend sitting there hurt? What kinda guy does this? Had a warrant out, most likely.

yes my daughter was on the bus that broke down and then on this bus that got hit, I am so proud of how Tate Showband handled the situation, making this parent less worried about the safety of her when she is away, now needless to say I didn’t sleep until she was at home sleeping. But again it shows how well these kids can handle anything because of the staff that works with them. Thank you Mr. Philley for staying with these kids until they finally arrived back safely at Tate. It really shows how much he cares for all of these kids

Thank God the kids were not hurt. Shaken up but not hurt. Our Showband of the South kids are amazing ! Traveled out of town to the game, bus breaks down on the way, everyone jumps on to the other buses and on the road again. Get there just in time to RUN onto the field and deliver an outstanding performance (as usual). Bus gets hit and all the kids don’t get home until 3 am…..Back at it again the next day for 3 hour trip to Troy where, yes, the Showband of the South delivers a straight “1″ performance !! Mike Philly and his staff are amazing ! We love our Aggies !!

IMHO – obviously a wanted man. Why else would he run? Drugs maybe? In either case, I hope he’s captured quickly. Obviously not the brightest bulb in the box.

Dumb. Passenger sill there and he RUNS? Either high on drugs and didn’t want to test positive or bike was stolen or just an idiot…..
