Lina Carrie Showalter

Mrs. Lina Carrie Showalter, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015.

Mrs. Showalter was born in Gaskin, FL, and had been a resident of Century since 1957. During her working years she was the director of nursing at Abernathy Memorial Hospital in Flomaton. She was a member of Flomaton First Baptist Church and the Alger Sullivan Historical Society. Mrs. Showalter was preceded in death by her husband, William Nathaniel Showalter, II.

She is survived by a son, William Nathaniel Showalter, III and wife Angela of Baltimore, MD; three daughters, Malinda Williford and husband Ben of Spanish Fort, AL, Marina Chancery and husband Roy of Brewton and Melanie Killam and husband Gary of Century; one sister, Lita Jones and husband Tuck of Holt, FL; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Flomaton First Baptist Church on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Keese and Rev. Dustin Stockstill officiating. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Flomaton First Baptist Church on Friday, October 9 from 4-7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Williford, Matthew Williford, Jacob Chancery, Luke Killam, Seth Killam, John Pruitt, Andrew Roberson and Nathan Showalter.

Interment will be in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton.

    Mrs.Showalter … She had time for everyone, no pretenses, just honest and with utmost integrity. She was such a woman of class. We all are lucky to have known her and Mr. Showalter and we are the better because of it. Their legacy will be revered.

    I was so sad when learning this. Mrs Showalter was one of the sweetest woman around this area. She never looked down on anyone simply because they were poor. She treated everyone the same. I never seen her that she wasn’t smiling. Always smiled and spoke to everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to all her family. May God bless you all.

    Nat, Marina, Malinda and Melanie, I am so sorry to hear about Lina’s home going, but at the same time excited for I know she was ready and anxious to go. She was definitely an Angel and I know was welcomed in Heaven. You will miss her but the memories of your life with your Mother will be enjoy every time you think of the things all of you laughed about and shared as a family unit.

    Nat… you probably don’t remember me but we went to school together at Century High School I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been there with both parents and I know it’s hard. My heart goes out to you and yours.

    I know there are two children that are sad, she watched them grow up and use to read. To them at a young age, they live across the street, God Bless you our Angel in Heaven.
