Flomaton Man Facing Felony Charge For Playground Vandalism

October 7, 2015

A Flomaton man has been charged with the vandalism of a town playground.

Christopher Edward Bingham, 21, was arrested Tuesday for criminal mischief in the first degree, a felony. Bingham was identified by Flomaton Police as the person responsible for the vandalism of the playground equipment at Hurricane Park sometime between July 16 and July 17.

The damage to the playground, which has been closed since the vandalism, was $6,360.

“The Flomaton Police Department will continue to investigate to determine if others were involved in the  vandalism,” Police Chief Bryan Davis said.

CT said “I hate seeing people wanting to hang someone over a non-violent crime”. This could have turned into a violent crime, look at a bigger picture, if one of our children had gone out to the playground, then without looking, jumped on the equipment that he had vandalized and was hurt. You would then want to sue the city , cause yo young one got hurt,

If this individual knows Right from Wrong, then he needs to be punished. If he is unable to comprehend Right from Wrong, then he should have not be left alone or the one responsible for his well being failed and should become responsible.

    @Jane, @Jj, @CT, @country,

I read the article twice & did not see anything about an intellectual disability, but right on cue – some body is making excuses for him (it wasn’t his fault, he didn’t do it).

If he did it – don’t feel sorry for him – make him go through the system –

All he will get is a slap on the wrist – NOW, DON’T DO THAT AGAIN !!!

    REGARDING:
“he suffers from an Intellectual disability formerly known as mental retardation. However he wasn’t given the help he needs to succeed in life there is not enough programs for people with that disability. I am not condoning what he has done but I feel that is not all his fault.”

Maybe none of it was his fault if you believe people with intellectual disabilities can’t distinguish right from wrong, good from evil.
Maybe it’s our fault for letting him live freely among us?
Since we can’t fix stupid, perhaps we should cage or euthanize all below some arbitrary IQ level?

    Seems cruel to me.

Man this is a good man right here I don’t believe he would mess up a kids playground I’ve known this man all my life and he would never do something like that as far as I know but anyway free my boii and my brother keep ya head up Chris Bingham

I know this guy and he is not a bad guy, he ain’t mentally retarded either…I assume jane was being funny. He probably just made a stupid decision while out drinking with friends. No more, no less. Nobody got hurt, so I say give him probation, make him work off the 6k.

I hate seeing people wanting to hang someone over a non-violent crime. I have an old friend from school doing 10 years because he stole some guns…I mean really? It was dumb, and I would be mad if it was me that got stolen from, but I wouldn’t want that person losing 10 years of their life over a non-violent crime. Life is too important, we need to start rehabilitating instead of imprisoning for this type of stuff.

Yes, he did wrong. Yes, he will pay for his wrong doing. So I ask you all to remember that this young man has a mother, brothers & grandmother that love him deeply. With that being said please limit your nasty thoughts of him. His family has done the best they can to raise him right. They can not help he made a stupid mistake. They can only stand by him. How many of you can say you never made a mistake? Even if you are a Christian. We are not perfect and the only who is to judge this young man is our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. So I ask you again to please do not make nasty comments on this young man. Especially if you do not know his situation.

Really what the hell? Got it he screwed up OK arrest him almost three months later why wait so long but yet there r meth heads n dealers all over n other real criminals free. So let’s feed n house this guy for a playground really. Give him probation n make his community service fixing it. The law is so backwards nowadays.

Aside from what he serves until he is bonded out, he will probably never see jail time as long as he shows up for his appointments. Under Alabama’s new laws regarding incarceration, I would imagine this does not constitute actual jail time. I think that for a crime like this, probation, restitution, and community service, including but not limited to helping repair and maintain the playground and Hurricane Park, are in order.

Back to kindergarten, for you big boy, to learn how to play fair and not destroy other’s property. Shame!!!

@Jane, if we haven’t mentioned his disability, it’s because we don’t know him nor do I see it mentioned in the article. The lack of discernment is frequently a factor in crime. Hopefully he will get some guidance and training to do good not bad. He should have to work off his debt in some way good for the community.

  13. William2 on October 7th, 2015 3:58 pm

WOW You don’t get to go around and break other people’s stuff. More than likely they will give him probation and community serivce.

  14. Chris on October 7th, 2015 3:39 pm

“Yeah send him to prison because he cut a slide!!!really crazy people….”

Send him to prison for stealing $6,360 worth of taxpayer dollars. It’s a little easier to see when you look at it that way, huh?

  15. Jane on October 7th, 2015 1:15 pm

What people have failed to mention is he suffers from an Intellectual disability formerly known as mental retardation. However he wasn’t given the help he needs to succeed in life there is not enough programs for people with that disability. I am not condoning what he has done but I feel that is not all his fault. It was wrong but who’s to say there wasn’t people around who had a brain to help him make the right choices was just as much at fault as he was .

  16. David Huie Green on October 7th, 2015 12:17 pm

  18. EMD on October 7th, 2015 9:42 am

Maybe he’s mad he did not have a playground.

  19. Lifendason on October 7th, 2015 7:54 am

Don’t lock him up so he can get worse. Put him to work cleaning all the parks in the neighborhood and county for the next 5 years.

  20. tg on October 7th, 2015 7:06 am

Seems like people that dont have anything dont want others to have anything.

  21. Billy D on October 7th, 2015 6:56 am

man I’m scared the way he’s mean-mugging the photo. That’s a pretty tough look for a grown man to have after beating up on a plastic playground. They’ll blame it on him being picked on in a playground as a kid and he’s just venting his frustrations. Wow, a REAL playground bully!!!!

  22. molinoman on October 7th, 2015 6:15 am

He must not be that bright. He looks like a hard criminal huh? A grown man hanging out in children’s parks causing problems. For shame.

  23. clint on October 7th, 2015 5:47 am

Vandalizing a playground. Really! The pic looks like he may have anger problems!! Get a Job…

  24. Well on October 7th, 2015 5:25 am

Lock him up until he makes restitution plus about 5 years.

  25. Good Grief on October 7th, 2015 4:57 am

What a punk! Trying to look tough but just looking stupid. The convo in jail must be hilarious, “hey Bro why you in here. Dude I tore up a playground. Tore that b!?#$ DOWN!!!” IDIOT
