Woman Seriously Injured After Driver Runs Stop Sign
September 4, 2015
One person was injured in a two vehicle crash Thursday night in Cantonment after a driver reportedly ran a stop sign.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 67-year old Billy Cox of Pensacola was traveling north on County Road 97 in a 2002 Hyundai Santa FeĀ when he ran a stop sign at Muscogee Road and collided with a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by 59-year old Melinda Fredrickson of Pensacola.
The right side of Fredrickson’s vehicle struck three road signs and a mailbox before coming to rest in a ditch. Firefighters were forced to use the Jaws of Life to free her from the vehicle. Fredrickson was transported by ambulance to West Florida Hospital with serious injuries.
Cox was charged with running a stop sign after troopers said multiple witnesses reported Cox ran the stop sign at a speed of “around 40 miles per hour”.

>>Looking at google maps at that intersection
I have not looked at this intersection on Google Maps, and I’m not disagreeing. I will, however, point out that the cameras are mounted several feet above the vehicle and are not at driver level.

Looking at google maps at that intersection one can see only a single stop sign.
Perhaps roads dept. should add two giant stop signs; one on each side on Hwy 97. Also put the bumpy strips on Hwy 97 as you approach this intersection.
How about it? (850) 494-5860 roads@myescambia.com
Sending prayers.
So many people run stop signs on East 9 mile road and New Chemstrand road while on my way to work in the AM.
Maybe now they will let my family put up a bgood fence to keep cars from entering there home.
Wow, bad one. I’m glad she was in the Nissan & not the other way around, because this would’ve come out different. I hope Ms. Fredrickson will be okay.
My friend… your angel was with you!!!!!! Prayers for you!!!
