Two Injured In Highway 97 Crash

September 20, 2015

Two people were injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday night on Highway 97 in Dogwood Park.

The driver of a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe was cited for careless driving after rear-ending a Ford Expedition at the intersection of White Ash Road. Two people were transported from the crash by Escambia County EMS and Atmore Ambulance to area hospitals.

The accident shut down Highway 97 with a temporary detour for over an hour.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.  The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

FHP needs to sit on this road a lot more often. I live in the Dogwood Park area and everyday we see people passing on hills and curves and double yellow lines and on weekend the Crotch Rocket Bikers groups like to race on this road. Please FHP, make your presence known on our road like you do on Hwy 29.

Just a word of advice. Dont go on hwy 97 after 4:00 pm on friday or saturday. People going to the casino then have no patience at all with traffic.

Ya’ll please slow down. My daughter drives to work from Molino to Atmore everyday. She talks of people speeding past her on curves and hills. Think of the young people .Better to be late for work than not to make it at all>>>>

haha yeah I got them mixed up. I’d get an Expedition if Ford weren’t taking their factory to Mexico. American Truck made in Mexico, no thanks. Still very little damage.

As several people have said you can not drive the legal speed and not be run over on 97. One of the worse is in the Molino Park school area where I have been passed at both the north and south ends by people while we still have the road covered with no passing marking. Last week I was passed in the lane used for turning into the school while the lights were flashing for 20 mph in the school zone. If you drive legal you get flipped off and tail gated. LEO’s are spread so thin that they can only do so much. I have to question where these people are going that they endanger everyone.

I have to travel Hwy 97 as I live in Walnut Hill. I hate driving that road lately. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on with the drivers lately. They speed and pass at a high rate of speed, pass on double lines and even when oncoming traffic they take chances and pass and cause drivers to have to run off road to avoid an accident or a death. Last night I was traveling back to home and encounter the accident. It was hard for me to see when I was approaching. The patrol lights were blinding and the detour was not easy to follow as I have never driven that detour road before. When I went to turn back out onto Hwy 97 again patrol lights so bright vould not see the road. A dangerous situation. There will continue to be accidents due to the drivers traveling this Hwy and their driving skills.

@Puddin there’s very rarely a wreck in Dogwood Park, once a year maybe, and that is a stretch. As for highway 97 as a whole, yes, a lot of accidents, bad ones. It is because HWY 97 is the “Atmore Autobahn;” no one does the speed limit and if you don’t drive as fast as everyone else you get ran over. Like the Tahoe above.

I think I’ll buy a Tahoe, it barely has any damage compared to that Chevy truck!! I hope all are okay.

There are so many accidents because people won’t to fly down 97 and they don’t think about people trying to turn on to there drive,or street. Some are in such a hurry to go no where as fast as they can. I have to take it often and so many times I have been pushed over by some one going to fast around a curve someone trying to pass in no passing areas and having to slow down so goofball can get back on right side of road so I don’t have to see them kill someone in a head-on.

There seems to be an awful lot of accidents on the stretch of road. Wonder why. Hope everyone is ok.
