Sheriff’s Office, Escambia Firefighters Team Up To Save Kitten

September 19, 2015

Escambia Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to save kitten Friday morning.

K-9 Deputy Tim Taylor came across a woman at Airport Boulevard and W Street that was distraught because a kitten was stuck near the wheel of her car. Deputy Taylor worked to removed the frightened kitten who had been hanging on for dear life. He realized he would need gloves for the job, so he called for the assistance of Escambia Fire Rescue.

A crew from the Brent Fire Station responded, and they worked together to rescue the kitten which was transported by Fire Rescue to the Escambia County Animal Shelter for evaluation. The kitten was just fine and will be available for adoption after a five-day hold, according to a county spokesperson.

Firefighters have named the kitten “Spot”, like a fire station Dalmatian.

The same thing just happened to my son, Ryan, who is also a firefighter (Molino). A man approached him and asked if he could help get a cat out from his car engine. It took Ryan about 1 1/2 to free the cat (he had to remove the tire among other things).
So, now here’s the best part-after all that “rescue time”, I guess they bonded. Ryan decided he was going to keep the cat and give it a good home.(he has a big heart for animals!)
He already has a dog named “Smoke” and now he has a cat named “Ash”!

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. What an awesome crew for saving this adorable kitty. A friend of mine just last week saved a kitten that was under her truck. Took her and her husband hours to finally get the little stinker out. Knowing that I am a cat lover, she called me, so I took the cutie in, she is about five weeks old, orange and white female. She was never afraid of my dogs, but terrified of people. But with lots of love and patience, she now trusts me, and I adore her. Yes, she will be spayed as soon as she is old enough.

Awesome job! We had the same thing happen at our office – we rescued the frightened kitten and she turned out to be a very sweet pet now. At first you couldn’t get near her – she was lashing out with her claws and hissing at us. But do very thankful we were able to rescue her and give her a wonderful home !!
