Fire Chief Saves Man’s Life Following Mobile Home Fire
September 26, 2015
A local fire chief is being credited with saving a Century man’s life following a mobile home fire Friday night.
Walnut Hill District Chief Chris Brown was the first to arrive at a reported mobile home fire on Jack Smith Road, just off Highway 168 about six miles west of Century. The fire was mostly out, but smoke was still pouring out of the mobile home. Brown entered the mobile home, found the man down in a hallway and pulled him outside to safety.
The 57-year old man was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola suffering from smoke inhalation. An update on his condition was not available.
The fire had reportedly started in the kitchen of the mobile home about 7:30 p.m., and the man had exited the home but gone back inside with a water hose to fight the blaze.
The Walnut Hill, Century and McDavid Stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the incident.
