Man Injured In Crash With Deputy; ECSO Says It Was Intentional
August 3, 2015
Two people were injured when a driver collided with an Escambia County deputy Monday morning in what the Sheriff’s Office said was an intentional act.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol 22-year old Richard A. Holsendorff of Niceville was traveling south on Scenic Highway when his 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo crossed the center line and traveled into the path of Deputy Terry Hammock. Hammock who was northbound in a fully-marked Escambia County Sheriff’s Office 2013 Chevrolet Impala. Holsendorff’s Monte Carlo overturned as a result of the collision. Both drivers received minor injuries in the crash.
In a separate news release, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said. “Holsendorff stated that he intentionally collided head-on with Deputy Hammock in an attempt to commit suicide.”
The ESCO said Hammock was involved in a vehicle escort at the time of the crash.
Charges against Holsendorff are pending, according to the FHP.

Is sorry
This was my brother he has struggled with the lost of his mother,
I’ve heard of suicide by cop, but never by this method. Pretty bizarre.
breaking the law oughta be against the law
@Chris…..Just trying to be “Facetious.” School shootings, mall shootings, theater shootings, people committing suicide by police. ” Ought to be against the law.”
I’m so glad you are ok! Hope you are feeling better soon!
Cherie
Doug, I know what the officer was doing.. I work along scenic hwy often and have came across many of these transports.. Hence I was the one that pointed out it was a transport, before North escambia even posted it was a transport.. Yes the officers drive in the middle of the road in some area’s due to the fact the Trailer is so WIDE it takes up most of a Lane and half of space… I came across one earlier this morning actually… Also at the end of my comment I said, Im not saying deputy was at fault, just pointing it out.
@ Doug– thanks for the information.
Why in the world would you try to kill someone else or hurt someone to kill your own self? That makes no sense.
B, The officer was not at fault. He was performing a lawfully approved DOT escort of a wide load. The load being escorted is so wide it takes up part of the oncoming lanes, that is why they have to get on the center line and tell motorist to slow down and mover over. It is for the protection/safety of the motoring public. The speed limit on Scenic is 45. Those officers make sure to not exceed that. It is the other oncoming traffic that is running 55-60 and not paying attention that causes the problems. This particular individual targeted that officers car in an effort to commit suicide. The officer saw the car steering toward him and tried to avoid the collision several times prior to being hit. Everyone needs to know the facts and truth before spouting off about something they think they know about. God speed to a full recovery, Dep. Hammock.
A law against suicide? How does one enforce that?
Lol was the deputy already in the middle of the road ? Probably not. More often then not it’s a funeral with Bayview right down the road..glad your just pointing out. And not an investigator… My 2 cents. Get well officer.
Crazy people among us, with my most humble apologies to the perpetually offended citizens. I can carry a legal concealed firearm and be aware of my surroundings. It’s hard to drive down a highway and hope some fruit-loop meeting me has not decided to end his existence, along with mine. Ought to be a law against that.
Glad to see you are okay Terry hope you get to feeling better soon buddy
He crossed waaay over the line.
Glad to see no major injuries from that hit.
Looks like they were doing a Transport for the plant on Scenic hwy… It says the the driver of the monte carlo crossed the line, But was the deputy already in the middle of the road? When they do the transport 2 Deputy’s Fly down scenic hwy way with the lights and afew sirens while just pointing to the side of the road.. Telling cars to slow and move over.. Im not saying deputy was at fault, just pointing it out.
