Lawmaker Seeks To Ban Confederate Flag At Government Sites

August 21, 2015

A Democratic lawmaker this week filed a proposal that would ban the display of Confederate flags on state and local government property in Florida. Under the bill, filed Wednesday by state Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando, any flags now flying would have to come down.

The bill says the ban would apply to “the flag or emblem of the Confederate States of America or any flag or emblem used by the Confederate States of America or its military or naval forces at any time within the years 1860 to 1865.”

The flag issue has been heavily debated since a racially motivated massacre of nine black churchgoers in June in Charleston, S.C. With the flag continuing to fly at some local-government sites in Florida, Thompson said it’s time for lawmakers to act.

“We haven’t seen the county level move to remove the flag,” she said. But House Local & Federal Affairs Chairman Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, said the bill will die if it comes to the committee he leads. “It’s unfortunate that we’ve gotten tied up in this discussion of cultural cleansing,” Baxley said. “The problem is once you start moving on this, then it goes to monuments, then it goes to roads, then it goes to disturbing graves.” The bill (SB 154) is filed for the 2016 legislative session, which starts in January.

It makes sense and it isn’t complicated. We have the American Flag. There is no reason to fly the unAmerican flag on government property because it doesn’t represent us.
The South isn’t going to rise again. The Confederate Flag can only represent anarchy against America and being that Florida isn’t seceding the flag can have no place in any context other than historical.

Btw, this topic is only about the Confederate flag. It has nothing to do with MLK or ISIS and it shouldn’t be a partisan issue. You either are an American who supports the Stars and Stripes or you aren’t.

Nwo, I said that not out of disrespect but showing how the liberal sheep have a gangpack mentality about the confederate flag . Some people could equate Martin Luther Kings statue as being a religious symbol and demand it to be removed. I was simply pointing out the ridiculously political agenda of the left and how the leftists wound feel if their sacred symbol were to be tampered with . Get it ?

Wow Lowry really your comment makes no sense. How do you compare the two?

Excuse me but isn’t the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King statue a religious figure? What is his statue doing on city property then in Pensacola? It offends me because it’s religious . It should be relocated to private property .

Next, the liberals will be knocking down monuments and disturbing graves. Sort of like ISSIS does. Liberals are no different.

Pretty soon America won’t be America anymore. One piece at a time. They take one piece of history, one piece of freedom…etc.
A flag first…oh but wait those Crosses must come down, because after all they offend..
Oh but wait those Church signs offend …take em down
The Ten Commandments?? Oh yes..they offend…take em down
Wait a minute..did you see that family saying grace before their meal? Arrest them..
Hang on….within 10 years old glory will be offending someone…
It’s called “The Domino effect”…It won’t stop now. Until Jesus says ENOUGH.I

The hillbillies and racists hi-jacked the image of this beautiful flag. This is the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. It wasn’t the “confederate” flag until late in the war. We can’t allow the Dylan Roof’s of this world the privelidge of taking away a significant historical symbol.

    I have a better idea…
Let’s ban politicians from government (ie. the people’s) property.
