Cantonment Man Charged With Sexual Battery On Minor

August 6, 2015

A Cantonment man has been charged with sexual battery on a minor.

River Austin Sewell, age 20 of Muscogee Road, was charged with sexual battery on a person 12-18 by a person 18 or older.

Sewell had allegedly been talking to the female victim for about six months before a midnight visit to her home on Fowler Avenue. According to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Sewell tapped on the girl’s window, which she opened to talk to him before he removed the screen and entered the bedroom. The female described a sexual encounter as consensual to deputies.

The incident was reported to deputies by a resident of the home who wanted to press charges for “statutory rape”.

Sewell denied the allegations against him.  He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

@elmerfudd….I agree and understand with what you are saying. And also there is a bug difference between 12 and 16. It doesn’t specify the exact age. The girl said it was consensual. If she is 16 or older, nail the window down.

That man better be glad I’m not the father or they would find him in a ditch somewhere down a dark dirt road.

    @ elmerfudd

So what you are saying is that just because nothing bad happened in your case, we should assume this case would be the same and simply ignore the law? You and your grandfather may have had great morals and entered into a long relationship with the other person, but we have predators out there with less honorable intentions. We have laws to protect young people from older people that would take advantage of them. Furthermore, finding somebody not guilty because you don’t agree with the law completely undermines our system and I would think that as somebody who served in the navy, you would understand the value of following established rules and holding people accountable for their actions. If we disagree with the law, we fight to change it. But we don’t give people a pass.

Times have change , My grandfather dated my grandma in 1900 he was 18 she was 13 a year latter the married and were together for 60 years

I met my wife when I was 19 and in the navy she was 15 and still with her 35 years latter
If I was on his jury I’d find him not guilty

yeah, because asking anyone for a copy of their birth certificate isnt scary! If you have any doubt that the person may be lieing, then stay away. Too many people let their hormones get the best of them.
