Kittens Recovering After Being Tossed From SUV; Woman Charged

July 7, 2015

A Santa Rosa County woman was arrested after allegedly throwing kittens out of her SUV, and authorities said late Monday that all of the kittens are doing just fine.

Santa Rosa deputies responded to the area of Highway 87 and Grady Tolbert Road after witnesses reported a woman in a black Infinity SUV throwing several small kittens out of the window of the moving vehicle.

The driver, identified as Veronica F. Gordon of Navarre, admitted to the allegations, deputies said. She was released from the Santa Rosa Count Jail on a $5,000 bond after being charged with felony animal cruelty.

Deputies remained in the area to search for the kittens, all of which were eventually located with the help of local citizens.  Dr. Natalie Dyson of the St. Francis Veterinary clinic checked the kittens, aged 5-6 weeks, and reported that all four will be fine.

There is a special place in hell for people like this

I don’t see how anyone could do that to an animal. If she is mentally ill, I hope that she gets help. If just cruel, a little jail time might help her.

Awww. These kittens are precious. This woman seems to have some severe issues. How could one do that? There are other ways of taking care of unwanted animals other than tossing them out of the car window. I hope this woman does not have children. I m kinda known as the old “cat lady” since I feed the neighborhood feral cats/kittens. One of my neighbors has called animal control on me several times as he hates cats and has even told me if one comes into his yard, he will get his pit bull after them. Maybe he was kidding, I don’t know. There are a lot of mean ppl in this world. Anyway, I just hope she gets some type of punishment that fits this horrendous act.

I read this news while out of the country and it consumed my thoughts my entire trip. How could anyone be so cruel to something so innocent (animals, children, elderly, etc)? The citizens and deputies who remained on scene to search for the kittens deserve much recognition for what they did. All lives are precious.

I will be more than happy to give one of these sweet babies a home. Please do a follow-up when they become adoptable age so we may know they’re available.

Who is the happiest in the first photo—– the officer or the kitten? Thanks to all that helped. To the LEO–please stay safe.

Strange…..Very Strange. So we can abort/murder human babies all day long but go to jail over a CAT!!!!!????
Something is very wrong with this Country!!!

I am just so in shock that someone could do this to any living creature. I cannot fathom why?? I breaks my heart to think that she could be so cruel. I have cats and a dog. Why lady, why? You could have brought them to a shelter. There is no excuse for trying to hurt them. If they had been injured and not found they would have suffered and starved to death. You are just plain ignorant and must have severe mental issues to do what you did. Please let this be an example of what will happen if you abuse anything living.

I hope this woman feels the consequences every day for what she has done and it follows her for a long, long time. Kudos to the wonderful people who rescued the kittens and what a beautiful picture of the deputy and the kitten.

Thank you to the officers who continued searching to find the other three. Only one kitten was initially found but with help and effort, the others babies are safe. About that woman….grrrrrrr – stiffer punishments are needed for what was done to these babies and others animals suffer abuse.

If people would have their pets spayed or neutered, there wouldn’t be any unwanted pets to get rid of. There are low cost spay and neuter clinics available to those who need assistance. Call the humane society and they can give you the info you need. Please, be responsible pet owners and stop this kind of cruelty!

The important thing here…they are ADORABLE!
The tabby sitting on the box looks like a troublemaker. ;)

I have been thinking of those precious babies since I heard of the incident. This makes me so sick that someone would do this to babies that wouldn’t have had a chance in hell if some wonderful people haven’t taken the time to locate them. I, myself, rescued a kitten at a gas station in Northern Al. while driving up to PA. He was about five weeks old. After locating a vet to take care of his injuries and two hundred bucks later, he traveled with us to PA, and he came home with us to Fl. and he is the love of my life. This lady needs some harsh punishment and jail time. Taking them to a shelter would have been much better then doing what she did. Thanks so much for the update on these babies. I can finally rest knowing they are all safe and doing well.
