    Time to arm everyone.
    Arm the homeless.
Cop to potential victim; let me see your license, registration, proof of insurance, and loaded sidearm.

Saw the other week where the hospitals increase the costs to we who DO have health and medical insurance (knowing they’ll only get part of that cost) to help offset the service losses on people who do not have insurance and are not covered by other programs.

In other words….we who pay our bills or have insurance also help keep the hospitals operating on indigents needs.

But he wasn’t a “victim”. He jeaporized his own well-being by engaging in illegal activity.

If he doesn’t have any health insurance (of any sort), that’s another issue. And one he’ll have to handle with the hospital billing department and/or credit bureau.

But the medical bills he incurred as a result of his illegal activity will not be paid for by Victim’s Assistance programs.

    Cindy,
    Of course it’s free….for him.
The “victim” most certainly doesn’t have medical insurance!

Having worked in hospital medical billing, if you’re injured while committing a crime, your medical costs are NOT free. Only if your the innocent victim of a crime are your medical bills (potentially) covered.

If he’d been arrested, then taken to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot, then the county would have paid the medical bills.

    But, he wasn’t arrested.
