Atmore Police Officer Assaulted; One Charged

July 22, 2015

An Atmore man is behind bars, charged with assault on an Atmore police officer.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, Atmore officers responded to a call for assistance on Sunset Drive where a growing crowd would not disperse, the department said in a Tuesday news release.

Officers responded to find several individuals involved in an altercation. As officers attempted to intervene, 30-year old Johnny Derell Knight of  Atmore refused to comply, charged one of the offers and assaulted him.

Knight was arrested without further incident on charges of assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

I really like the Atmore Police.
Sorry to hear of this altercation and hope the Officer is not hurt badly.
To me Law Enforcement should be respected as much and even more than our Military.
Law Enforcement Officers put their lives on the line daily, to protect,John Q citizen
The Human Animal can be more dangerous then the most fierce animal on the Planet….. Drugs alter behavior. Officers deal with this on a daily bases.
Thank you to the Law Enforcement Officers that make it safer for me and you!
    THANK YOU!

Disrespect for Law Enforcement is a growing problem in our nation.
Being a LEO is a dangerous profession by definition and made even more so by groups of thugs like these in the report.

LEO, thank you for being our First Line of protection from such thugs.
    God Bless and Protect you.
