New Signal Now Active At Highway 29, Highway 97 In Molino

June 12, 2015

The new traffic signal at Highway 29 and Highway 97 in Molino became operational Thursday. Drivers are being advised by the Florida Department of Transportation to use caution when approaching the intersection.

The new signal is mounted on horizontal mast arms. Since the signal is in the horizontal position, motorists with color weakness problems will need to remember red is on the left and green on the right.

I am all for the red light,ALTHO I have to say there are still the idiot drivers who are just “doing their own thing” once they get to the light. Its still a nightmare for the green light going east and west across Hwy 97 because there isn’t designated turn lanes so everyone just goes into the middle lane and then tries to figure out where everyone else is going … not good! No doubt there are going to be accidents there but hopefully not as many.

The red light was a bad idea….and time will prove
It. In the middle of nowhere….drivers already being surprised by it..ie comments from Tom Thumb workers…people going to run it and create more rear end collisions.

I absolutely love the light there. I travel that road every day.

I understand the need for this light, but I think they should’ve completed the work before activating it. There needs to be a “no u-turn” sign from the northbound 29 turning lane (it won’t stop all idiots but at least hold them accountable when they cause a wreck or get caught) because they obviously think the median extension was created to make things pretty & new, and can anyone else tell me of any intersection with a traffic signal where the speed limit is 55mph? Also, the re-design of the Crabtree & 97 intersection is a must. Doesn’t matter which one you’re trying to turn on, it’s a nightmare.

Maybe they should use a pavement grinder and cut some “wake up grooves” into the pavement before the intersection.

Imagine that, a high dollar red light and people still run it, so if someone would have been coming the other way and they collided what would this high dollar traffic light have proved ?? NOTHING light there or not, it is the PEOPLE that are NOT paying attention !!! The light can be red all day if people run it, it is pointless. It won’t be long before they put a red light cameras up and then the intersection will get REALLY dangerous.

I think Its Great, If This Had Been Done Years AGO, Some Of Our Loved One’s Would Still Be Here, WE will just have 2 get use 2 it, Good Job, We’re Moving On UP…..

The speed limits from 9 mile rd to the Alabama line ( Hwy 29 ) must change 15 times ? Hard to watch out for all potential trouble as well as constant speed changes. Maybe a more consistent speed limit would help. Speeding fines should be high enough to seriously subdue the desire for speed so many seem to have. I wonder what the max speed should be when approaching a traffic light ?

Maybe a strobe light on the light bar would help. The main thing that would help if drivers would just slow down when the speed drops as you top the hill south bound on 29.

From the tom thumb the clerks said they were watching people skidding through the intersection trying to stop for the light but did not make it.

    >>Where are all the warning signs, warning of this new light intersection?

To the north and south of of the intersection on Hwy 29, with blinking lights on top.

ALREADY my son was almost hit by a highway 29 bound driver that didn’t notice the red light as my son with the green light crossed over from east side of highway 97 to the west side! I still believe FDOT needs to install those slow down small speed bumps on the north and south sides approaching this intersection. SOMETHING TO SLOW HIGHWAY 29 DRIVERS DOWN TO AROUND 45 MPH WHEN COMING TO THIS INTERSECTION WITH THIS NEW LIGHT! Where are all the warning signs, warning of this new light intersection?

The only problem I can still see is when people make a “right on red” onto southbound hwy 29, andthen you have people making a U-turn into the Tom Thumb at the same time. People turning into the store will be cutting in front of the ones making the right on red.

“Top picture… looks like someone has already blown a red light.”

It is okay, they have their brake lights on.

    @Chris
I agree but You have to remember…
If you go on green the person running the red will hit you.

Now about 5 more red lights before cantonment and we can keep ourselves safer from ourselves.

Maybe the Florida State Troopers should hang out in this area for a few weeks? Just to make sure drivers notice the RED LIGHT!!

  17. BPD on June 12th, 2015 7:59 am

    It was just Pink.

  18. Chris on June 12th, 2015 7:53 am

This is Escambia County….people don’t stop on red, they don’t go on green, and there may as well not even be a yellow light. Just sayin’ !

Top picture… looks like someone has already blown a red light. Really hope this new traffic signal proves effective against the war on idiots.
