Cantonment Man Sentenced For DUI, Child Neglect For Wrong-Way Trip On Nine Mile Road

June 23, 2015

A Cantonment man has been sentenced for allegedly driving drunk on the wrong side of Nine Mile Road with two children in his vehicle.

Robert Anthony Hardee , 24, was sentenced to 90 days in jail to be followed by 48 months probation for DUI and child neglect without great bodily harm by Judge Michael Jones. He was also ordered to pay nearly $2,000 in fines and court costs, attend DUI school and consume no alcohol after his release. His driver’s license was also suspended for one year.

An Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy was traveling westbound on Nine Mile Road on August 9, 2014, when he observed traffic swerving left and right to avoid a Nissan SUV traveling on the wrong side of the road. Hardee turned on Chemstrand Road where he came to a stop. Two children were in the vehicle.

Hardee failed a field sobriety test, and later failed a breathalyzer test with an alcohol level of .242 — just over three times the legal limit of .08 — according deputies. Deputies reported finding a small bottle of vodka in the vehicle, with one of the children telling a deputy that Hardee has just consumed the alcohol.

Hardee also received traffic citations for driving on the wrong side of the road and possession of  an open container in a motor vehicle.

I agree with Shannon enough is enough I just hope you learn from your mistakes robert and yes we are guilty or something just not been caught yet we all make mistakes and we have to learn and grow from them. The situation could have been worse but I believe this is lesson learned

You all sound like a broken record and who’s business is his past but his and the court. Yes I know that public records are for the public but sounds to me that you are just smearing his name. He’s young, he didn’t kill anyone. I guess you could say that the only thing that did get hurt was his name.
We are all felons, if not convicted it’s only because you haven’t been caught. YET!
90 days is long enough for any drunk driving charge with no injuries.

Samantha I will always stand up for my kids. Till I die. But there is no excuse for what he has done. I could not stand up in any way if that was my son. You need to look at the whole picture.

Samantha , wow. Wish you were my mom so I could put my kids in danger and still have someone dumb enough to make excuses for me. Mistakes are mistakes. Putting your kids in danger shouldn’t be a dang mistake. It takes ONE time , ONE second , ONE decision to mess up to innocent children’s life. Bless their heart. I hope their momma doesn’t have the same thoughts as you.

Samantha, I see an arrest for battery from a few years back. Guess it’s not his first time.

People should not be so quick to judge and condemn this young man. Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. I promise you he has learned from his mistakes and is suffering in more ways than anyone can ever know. Let us all remember that the Lord is a very forgiving man and we should be as well. This was a bad judgment call on his part and he is now paying the price. This young man loves his kids very much and regrets his decision to get behind the wheel of his vehicle and drive with his kids after having a couple of drinks. I know people that drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs every day and never pay a price for it. I also know plenty that go around selling drugs and walk the streets free every day with no consequences to their actions. All I ask is to remember nobody is perfect.

If he’s smart, he’ll learn from this and make improvements. If not, we’ll most certainly see him again. It’s up to you, Robert! Chose wisely,.

That comment that said “this is his first time getting in trouble” should read “this is his first time getting CAUGHT” – thankfully there were sober drivers on the road that dodged him and avoided a severe head on crash thus saving the lives of everyone concerned, especially the children. “The story said one of the children told a deputy that Hardee has just consumed the alcohol…”children learn what they live”.

Hey Samantha, how about the fact that he could have killed innocent people including those children by driving on the wrong side of the road. It’s not just about “his family and kids and God”!!

  12. Samantha on June 23rd, 2015 9:53 am

Well of course he’s not going to get slot because this is his first time getting in trouble it just mind blows me how everybody can judge somebody so quickly it doesnt have to prove anything to y’all just his family & kids and GOD !!!

In situations like this , the sheriff should also have the ability to seize his vehicle!
