Cantonment Man Killed In Single Vehicle Crash

June 24, 2015

A Cantonment man was killed in a single vehicle accident in Cantonment Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 21-year old Aaron Lewis Wolfe was traveling southbound on County Road 97 in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee just before 9 p.m. As he entered a curve near Devine Farm Road, he left the roadway, traveled onto the shoulder and over-corrected, causing his vehicle to overturn multiple times. The Jeep came to rest upside down on the shoulder of the road.

Wolfe, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the FHP.

Lisa you and Denis and Waylon will be in our prayers. Just know that he is in such a better place than we are. Although I haven’t seen him in a long time he still was the sweetest kid. When I lived on Duxbury he and Waylon would always come down and play wth my kids. He will never be forgotten. If you need anything let me know. Love you girl

Lowering the speed limit will do absolutely 0 good … Although I support lowering it. I drive this road daily , and do the speed limit (you’ll see me in the grey sentra around 6 am) and on a DAILY basis I have a line of about 5 giant trucks tailgaiting me as if I’m on the interstate … so my point is this … the speed limit is 45 .. people routinely drive nearly 70 and that’s a conservative guess . So obviously no once actually cares what the speed limit is.

So sorry to hear this sad news, may the consolation in Christ Jesus be real and effective to his family and friends. And may his loss make us all mindful to drive with extra care and caution with the recognition that our lives are fragile thing!

Prayers for the family and friends of this young man. The speed limit does not need to be reduced. The road is extremely narrow (I drive it almost daily) and I have observed that the larger vehicles (garbage trucks, utility trucks, school buses, etc.) actually have to leave the road in order to provide enough room for oncoming vehicles to go by so as to not sideswipe them. Perhaps if the road is ever widened, they could also straighten out the curve somewhat. Unfortunately, as we all know, lose of life statistics dictate how soon road conditions are corrected. Suggest everyone contact the local officials to pressure them to address this section of 97 before some other family has to go through this..

Prayers go out to this family, so sorry for this young boy! I travel that curve Daily ,and can not tell you how many times some one has been in my lane coming head on! There is no where to go to avoid a car, no shoulder and just a ditch. The county is long over due please at lest put noise bumps!! My daughter refuses to go that way, come on escambia do the right thing! How many more lives ….. And have seen school buses go to fast for my liking knowing there is no room for error !

  23. Renee on June 24th, 2015 10:49 am

My heart is truly broken over this. This young man was like a son to me. He was one of my son’s best friends. GOD BLESS YOU AARON, YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED. Prayers for his family. I love you my son by another mother!

  24. Mike M. on June 24th, 2015 10:29 am

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young man.

I have lived close to this curve on 97 for over 40 years and can recall numerous accidents at that location all the way back to my youth. This was the 2nd fatality in less than 3 months on that curve. Its unfortunate that its the last section of 97 to be addressed by the county.

  25. Helen on June 24th, 2015 10:26 am

I taught Aaron in kindergarten. I am heartbroken. Praying for his family.

  26. Robinhood on June 24th, 2015 10:17 am

@ Concerned Citizen — Lowering the speed limit will not change a thing except make people drive even faster. I have lived in this town 53 years now and have driven up and down that road for YEARS and have never had an issue with the road due to the fact NUMBER 1 — I pay attention to what is going on, NUMBER 2 — I drive the speed limit BUT may go over by 5 or less MPH. People need to pay more attention to the road when they are driving and leave those phones alone until you reach your destination. No PHONE is worth DEATH. Not say this young man was on a phone but just saying that something was taking his attention away from the road / wheel. I am SO SORRY about this young man losing his life and hopefully he had the LORD on his side and doing better today than he ever has in his life. GOD cares and he heals and comforts us as well.

  31. Frank on June 24th, 2015 8:33 am

RIP, God help this family…this is a terrible section of road so narrow, I saw the mirror taken off when a bus and truck passed each other…. desperately needs widening….

  32. Jen Pizzotti on June 24th, 2015 8:20 am

So saddened by this news. This family has been through so much. I remember Aaron as a tough little kid always keeping up with the bigger ones, and I have very good memories of their family visits in Bay Minette with various cousins. Our prayers for comfort seem like such a small token to offer, but GOD will comfort them with his grace the way only HE can. God Bless you Lisa, Waylon, Dennis and your family and friends.

  33. DCP on June 24th, 2015 8:07 am

I HATE that curve. 97 is SO NARROW through there and that curve is so very dangerous. I try to avoid it if at all possible.
My deepest sympathies to his family.

  34. Heather on June 24th, 2015 7:32 am

  36. Concerned citizen on June 24th, 2015 6:24 am

So tragic! This is right outside my neighborhood, the curve is so dangerous. Exactly 6 months ago another 20 yr old male died after an accident in this same curve. I wish they would lower the speed limit!!!

    Praying for the family
