I met Hugh 7 years ago. He was extremely cordial, impressionable and friendly. Basically, he made an impression that has lasted. My condolensences are extended to his family, the school family and everyone impacted by his departure from his earthly home. God Bless!

I can’t believe this! Hugh was a very good man and principal to my son and daughter. He was one of the nicest person I ever met. My daughter still goes to McCall and my wife teaches there and they are just devastated. I can’t even imagine how much loss his wife and kids are going through. But you can see by all these posts that he made a difference in kids lives and that will always be. My kids are better from just going to McCall because of him.

No matter how hard I tried to change “Hugh”. He always addressed me as Mr. Powell. This came from his Parents and Grandparents. I adored his Dad, “Paul” as I called him. He left us way too soon and wull be surely missed.

I grew up knowing Hugh and his family. Only a year older than me. His whole family was a blessing. Loved his daddy, Mr. Skip. Only fun and fond memories of the fun loving, cut up that Hugh was. My love and sympathies to his family.

He was a great teacher and friend. He taught great and and was a passionate caring person. I couldn’t believe the news when I heard. He taught me in school and also let me help him in his garden and around his house. It’s been several years but I still remember him like it was yesterday. My dearest thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and love ones. I especially mourn for his young children. I know they will grow in his footsteps.

This is as great a loss to not only his family and friends but the Pollard McCall School will not be the same. Not only did he care but I know from personal experience with my granddaughter he truly loved each and every child at McCall School. I don’t have a child in that school any more but the one that was there is heart sick over his passing. Thank You Mr White for All That You Did and the Love You Have Given To All Those Kids

Such an amazing person. He was talking to my grandson a couple weeks ago and told him he needed to come to McCall when he started school. He said we will have fun, and he is exactly right. He made school fun for the children at McCall while earning respect from them. I know the children will miss him but will always rember and love him. His wife was my daughters teacher at Flomaton and she is also a great teacher. I wish peace for his wife and children during this difficult time.
