Cantonment Motorcyclist Charged With Fleeing From Deputies

May 4, 2015

A Cantonment man has been charged with running from deputies on his motorcycle.

An Escambia County deputy reported that he observed a Honda motorcycle at the intersection of Nine Mile and Pine Forest roads. He said the driver, later identified as 21-year old Brian Paul Watkins, turned around and looked directly at him. The deputy later activated his lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop because the motorcycle’s tag was expired. The deputy reported Watkins continued at a normal speed before taking off at a high rate of speed and passing through two red lights. The deputy reported that he turned off his lights and sirens, discontinuing the traffic stop, as Watkins continued at a high rate of speed on Pine Forest Road  “with no regards to other vehicles that were in his path of travel”.

A warrant was prepared for his arrest.

Watkins was charged with felony fleeing and eluding while lights and siren activated and cited for resiting an officer and operating a motorcycle without a license. He remained in the Escambia County Jail Monday with bond set at $52,000.

He actually did show up for his court dates. He turned himself in once the warrants were out.

Remember that bond amounts often reflect both prior offenses and whether someone has proven to be a flight risk. He has plenty of both.

Gramma, bet if he commited a felony leo would have chased him. The idiot should have had his helmet on

    The bond is low?

The dude ran at least two red lights, and could have easily hurt innocent people. He fled the police, and has disregard for the law and public safety.

What makes you think he’s going to show up for his court date? A newfound sense of civic responsibility?

I did laugh at the Wolverine reference, though.

His bail is that high due to his doing the same thing on 03/17/2015.
Along with two other similar incidents since January.

Now THAT is how leos should respond. Lives saved and arrest made! Work smart and don’t let ego rule. Proud of you officer!

These people that have their cars plastered with “Watch for Motorcycles” are right on. You had better watch for them because it seems like half of the bikers speed, weave in and out of traffic, use the shoulder as a secondary highway and have disregard for the safety of others. I’m glad they found this little thug and arrested him.

I agree with Mike on his bond… pretty steep. Things would have gone much better had he just pulled over. This is going to be a very expensive lesson.

now THAT’S how you take a $50 ticket for an expired tag and turn it in to a few hundred(or more) worth of felony fleeing and eluding! Way to step it up and take one for the team!!!!

Most Pocket Rockets speed and think they can easily outrun the law.

    Smooth move there Wolverine! :)

The bond seems kinda high for this though.

I see the s.o is sticking with their “no chase” protocol. Glad it worked out this time
