Hurricane Forecasters Predict Quietest Season In Decades

April 10, 2015

The forecasters at Colorado State University are predicting that 2015 will be one of the quietest hurricane seasons in decades.

They are only predicting seven named storms, the lowest forecast in two decades, and three hurricanes. There are normally 12 named storms and six or seven hurricanes, the group said.

The slow season, according to Colorado State researchers is because an El Niño of at least moderate strength will develop this summer and fall, and the tropical and subtropical Atlantic are also cool.

“Despite the forecast for below average activity, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them. They should prepare the same for every season, regardless of how much activity is predicted,” researchers said.

Don’t believe it. When they tell us how wonderful it’s going to be, keep your bags packed and your bloomers clean.

This is opposite of the Farmer’s Almanac prediction.

By prediction, there enters the words “educated guess.”
Please don’t be lulled into a complacent attitude about hurricanes or tropical storms.
Having been born before hurricanes were named, it has always been common sense to exercise caution.
Years ago when PNS NAS had a carrier, it was the real barometer. If the carrier left, so did I!

This area seems to get hit every 10 years, unfortunately we are about due.

Didn’t BO just tell us that global warming/climate change causes more hurricanes? Wasn’t last year fairly quiet, as well? Has Colorado finally stopped listening to him?

They’ve predicted heavy activity for the last few years and yet we haven’t gotten much, now they say it’s going to be a quiet season, not sure I can believe that. El Nino or not I have a feeling we’re in for something. I hope not as no one likes horrible weather especially me, but call it instinct or a gut feeling, but I’d rather be prepared than not and be wrong.

@ me, yep, I agree. Don’t tempt fate by saying something like that! :)

Well, since they have predicted it to be THE quietest that means we are going to get hammered.
