Cantonment Woman Charged In School Bus Hit And Run

April 8, 2015

A Cantonment woman is facing multiple charges for fleeing the scene of a school bus crash on Mobile Highway Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 18-year old Danielle Jocelyn Lee was charged with third degree felony leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, and cited for failure to exhibit a driver’s license on demand, no proof of registration, no insurance and violation of right of way.

Lee is accused of turning her blue Volkswagen left in front of a school bus driven by 43-year old Angela Jordan at Bellview Avenue and Mobile Highway. Following the crash, troopers said Lee fled the scene, later telling them that she was afraid. Lee was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $5,000.

There were 28 children on the bus at the time of the crash. Two reported minor injuries, one transported to the hospital by EMS and the second removed from the scene by parents.

Since that time, she has presented proof of insurance and of a valid drivers license.
Every day I see drivers doing foolish things. We don’t have enough money and jail cells for all of them. I would rather they be used for the malicious and murderous than the careless and scared.

Nonetheless, if you insist, off with all their heads.

    David for going overboard

Hmm. Lets see David, no license, no insurance, fleeing the scene, and injured children and you say a scolding is good enough!! You scold a five year old when they do wrong!! This young lady is way past her scolding phase.

John for practical discernment and judgement. And leave forgiveness to those whose where trespassed against.

    CONSIDERING:
“One to two years prison sound fair and reasonable.”

    Nah, but a good scolding….

David remembering my past errors in judgment
(yesterday is in the past, isn’t it?)

So does that mean its ok if everyone leaves the scene after a area because they are scared,18 is ok enough to know better

Ty; Fact that her car “barely” scraoed the bus may not have caused the injuries to the people on the bus. But the fact that the bus had to come to an abrupt stop to minimize the crash would certainly throw a few kids out of the seats, thus causing the injuries. you see, the bus would not have slammed the brakes had it not been for the the car impeding the right of way. Be fair and logical.

These are the actions of a straight A student? hmm did the uninsured/unregistered vehicle belong to her? a hard life lesson to learn for someone so smart and never gets into any trouble and surely knows right from wrong.

I am sure she was afraid, but that doesn’t give her the excuse to leave the scene of an accident that she caused. She should know the law if she drives. She caused an accident involving kids, what if those kids was hurt badly, she left and didn’t even think about those kids. I am so glad everyone is okay.

I’m sure she was just scared she’s only 18, give her a break.

  11. Derik on April 8th, 2015 5:13 pm

She’s old enough to know right from wrong.

You do know the term in “no regard for the law”. No disregard for the law means that she does respect and follow the laws. It sounds like she was afraid. At 18 there are so many doors open- I hope her life is not ruined because of one mistake made in fear.

She is young. People react different ways. Im sure she didnt want to hit a bus. But when you are afraid….sometimes you do things wrong. Maybe this will be a good lesson. Glad nobody got serious hurt.

Hopefully the kids, the bus driver and the young lady in the car are okay.

    REGARDING:
“For those of you who are saying she has no disregard for the law, ”

I assure you nobody has said that.

She is a student athlete, a very good one at that. She gets good grades, is never in any trouble. I’m sure once she hit the bus she didn’t know what to do!!

  18. Ty on April 8th, 2015 9:21 am

For those of you who are saying she has no disregard for the law, you are wrong, she is a straight A student, with multiple scholar ships, she has never been in trouble and is an all around sweet girl. If you don’t know the facts, please do not comment on something. She was injured also, and by the way she barely scraped the bus so injuries on the other side are unlikely.

  19. David Martin on April 8th, 2015 6:08 am

Being afraid is NO excuse. I am sure anyone would be afraid after they caused an accident. That is no reason to flee the scene.

She was released on bond 4-5 hours later, her butt should have had to stay in jail at least 48 hours for those type offences, somone came up with $500 very quick.
