Scott Presents $1.4 Million In Bonus Funds To Escambia Schools

March 17, 2015

Gov. Rick Scott presented $1.4 million in school recognition funding awards to Escambia County schools Monday afternoon. The financial awards were based on sustained or significantly improved student achievement at individual schools.

“These funds will help provide Escambia county schools and teachers with resources they need to continue to build upon their success, and put Florida another step closer to providing our students with the best education system in the nation,” Scott said.

“Our students, teachers, and school staffs are working hard every day, and this recognition funding will play a big role in continuing our success as we continue our journey to excellence,” Escambia School Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said. Since 1999, Escambia County Schools have received almost $20.4 million in school recognition funds.

I can assure you that teachers do not teach just for a paycheck. We work on lessons and grade papers at home, not to mention the hours we put in when the students leave and during pre-planning.

Dee, your question, “Where is Ferry Pass Middle?” It is where you taught sixth grade for several years. At 8355 Yancey Ave. off E. Olive Rd. Remember?

@Dee I can tell you this most teachers do it because they love it, not for the paycheck. They are some of the lowest paid public employees, have terrible benefits and are constantly being micromanaged from Downtown and Tallahassee. Most of the micromanaging is from people who have never taught. Education has changed tremendously in the last 10 years, so everybody’s ideas and thoughts about what teaching is, need to ask somebody who is actually a teacher now. Parents want miracle workers in the classroom, and complain when the miracle isnt performed. In the last 12 weeks of school there will be(had been) some form of standardized testing during 9 of those 12 weeks.

Congratulatons to our Principal and staff at our Molino Park Elementary. It is not at all surprising they recieved this financial honor, one they most highly and definitely deserved, and I am certain it will be used to the benefit of the children if I know this principal and her staff as well as I think I do…………….there is no other school in this county like our Molino Park. God bless everyone who cares for and diligently prepares our children for their future and the future of our community and nation…………………………………

@Dee, Warrington, Bellvire, and Woodham all improved by at least a letter grade is why they are there. Ferry Pass did not. I think you comment is a low blow as I believe most teachers love their job. You make it sound as only the Ferry Pass teachers are the only teachers that deserve a bonus. Please do not belittle other schools

I’m super confused with this! Warrington, Bellview and Woodham? Where is Ferry Pass Middle? Maybe they should focus on using that money to hire teachers that actually love doing what they are doing instead of teachers who do it for a paycheck! Just a thought.

Congratulations to all the schools that received bonus funds but a special congrats to Byrneville Elementary and Earnest Ward Middle. I know first hand that these two schools are deserving.
