Santa Rosa Deputy Seriously Injured In Central Florida Wreck

March 18, 2015

A Santa Rosa County deputy and the prisoner he was transporting were seriously injured in a head-on collision Monday in Central Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 34-year old Dinara R. Kalimulina, age 34 of Plano, TX, was eastbound on I-10 near Lake City in a 2015 Lexus when she traveled off the roadway and crossed the median into oncoming traffic and struck a marked Santa Rosa County patrol car head-on. Deputy Kurt A. Schultz, 37, attempted to avoid the collision, according to the FHP.

Deputy Joshua Toole, a passenger in the cruiser, was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainsesville where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition on Wednesday. Kalimulina was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Her 6-year old passenger was not injured. The inmate was transported to a hospital in serious condition. His name has not been released. Deputy Schultz was not injured.

Kalimulina admitted to the FHP that was distracted by her GPS at the time of the crash. She is facing a charge of careless driving.

I don’t agree Paul, distracted driving should not be on par with DUI. Although distracted driving is bad especially as it relates to these idiots who text and drive. These ppl should be cited for “reckless driving” which is a big deal. Ive seen too many ppl run off the road, run others off the road, sit through green lights, etc. I pray for all those involved in this accident and hope they all recover.

Yes accidents do happen cause people sometimes just get distracted. There are a lot of things that can take your attention away from your driving. You might have a child that is crying or arguing with someone or looking at your GPS you could be reading a road sign looking for a place to stop there are numerous things that can distract us we need to remember to keep at least one eye on the road at all times. This can happen to anyone I just hope and pray everyone is ok.

@paul…. You are SO right Paul….. cell phone and texting involved in a wreck with injuries or death should be the same as some one driving while drunk or on drugs…… It’s only going to get worse!!!

    >>Where is the info about seatbelt usage?

Both deputies and the other driver were wearing their seat belts. The report says “Unknown” on the 6-year old and no information at all was released about the prisoner.

But the outcome could have been the same. If stupidity was painful, there would be a lot of people in a world of hurt!

In the end the results are the same and to me when one picks up a cellphone or other device while driving it isn’t any different from one who picks up a bottle.. They’re endangering innocent lives with their carelessness..

No worries for her.. It’s only a $166. fine.. Distracted driving needs to be on par with DUI..
