A Backwoods Road man has been arrested for manslaughter following a fatal shooting Saturday night in Century.

Jaran Britt Myles, 20, was booked into the Escambia County Jail Sunday morning on charges of negligent manslaughter, aggravated assault and kidnapping false imprisonment. He is being held without bond after turning himself in.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year old Jonathan Wilson was shot inside a home in the 1000 block of Backwoods Road about 8:00 Saturday night. Wilson was pronounced deceased on the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, while Myles fled the scene by forcing two additional victims at gunpoint to give him a ride, according to investigators. Myles was identified as the shooter by witnesses.

Witnesses told investigators that the shooting was the result of the reckless use of a firearm, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and investigators from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office were on scene for several hours Saturday night, working to identify the victim and figure out exactly what happened. Numerous potential witnesses were transported to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s sad to read some of these comments because if it were the other way around then most of you would be screaming free Jon boy two young men lost there lifes in the tragedy one is just with the lord if you weren’t there you cant say what you would have did in that situation and if you weren’t there you cant say what occured on that horrible night he will do his time for wreckless use of a fire arm and manslaughter but murder is to much and if some of you would stop and think if he did it on purpose then why would he let the two people go that he supposedly kidnapped knowing they knew who he was stop and think before you speak my heart goes out to Jonathan’s mother and family and same for run runs but only God has the final say so people are so quick to judge and not even know what took place smh this world is so corrupted

ANY safe gun owner knows that you NEVER point your weapon at something that you don’t intend to destroy!! Pointing a weapon at someone is NOT a game!! Life is not a video game! When you shoot somebody, 9 times out of time, that person will die, and not have any extra lives to use!! STOP being IGNORANT, people!! …

  3. this one person on March 4th, 2015 5:16 pm

I honestly don’t think run run should be free. Reason because I don’t think anyone accidentally shoots someone, there is always a reason for someone doing such a stupid thing to such a great boy! Jonathan did not deserve that at all…and I do believe that he shouldn’t have been hanging out with run run. If run run was such a good friend to Jonathan like everyone says he wouldn’t have even thought about pointing the gun at Jonathan.!!!!!! I think run run should serve life in prison with the death penalty!!!!! That’s just my opinion….he should have had better sense than to “”play around”" like that!!!!! People are stupid and should suffer the consequences for the things they do!!!!!! Jonathan you will be missed but never ever forgotten you were such a good friend and person!!!!!!!

No matter if it was an accident or not, a young man still lost his life. No one can bring him back. Noone can take away the pain his family is feeling right now. If ‘runrun’ wanted to play big and bad with a gun he should have to pay the price. The full price, not part of it. He made the conscious decision to pull that fire arm it and put it up to a persons head. Too many people these days think of weapons as toys. We as parents need to be teaching our kids to respect not only weapons but other human beings lives. In my opinion ‘runrun’ should serve life in prison, at the very least.

  6. wow on February 2nd, 2015 10:50 pm

You don’t hold a gun and point it at someone unless your intending to kill. Sorry but it is just common sense to not be messin around with guns in the first place. I do not feel bad for him, he should know by now not to pick up a gun and even point it towards someone unless you are intending to kill that person. I’ve heard so many different stories and I don’t even care which one is true or not anymore, I’m sick & tierd of seeing “free run run” on my face book. no matter what y’all post on facebook or anything is going to help his situation.

  7. not to be known on February 2nd, 2015 10:02 pm

Well they nicked named run run right cuz thats exactly what he did was run and if jonboy was his bestfriend then he wouldn’t have ran he would have tried to help him or if there was no way to help he would have called 911 and he wouldnt have held 2 others at gun point and btw for the one who said that he didnt kidnap anyone when held the other two at gun point and forced them to take him somewhere thats classified as kidnapping… R.I.P jonboy gone but never forgotten and as for “run run” u got what u deserved

  8. Jus say n on February 2nd, 2015 7:52 pm

People make mistakes every day run run has to pay for his along with the other folks in prison drinking driving kill someone prison shoot someone prison he shouldn’t have pointed the gun …not a accident it takes strength to pull the trigger it didn’t go off without his finger ..lock him up…

  9. persom on February 2nd, 2015 6:27 pm

Man I said yesterday forget all y’all my cuzin ain’t a bad person and this was a mistake and I’m scream this till he get out FREE RUNRUN I LOVE YOU CUZIN

  12. Crystal B on February 2nd, 2015 3:49 pm

It may have been an accident, but the point is, he’s 20 years old. My Daddy always taught me that you never point guns at people, loaded or not. This is exactly why. 20 years old is old enough that you know not to play with guns. And whose gun was it anyways? The shooting may have been an accident, and he may have been scared. But using the gun afterwards to get people to give him a ride is unacceptable, scared or not. He’s an adult and should be held accountable for his actions. All this “Free RunRun” stuff is ridiculous. I’m not saying he’s a bad person, but he should not be freed. Holding others at gunpoint after the shooting is enough to keep him in jail. It does not matter if a person is scared, they know the law. It’s a tragedy that he killed his best friend and will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

    God Bless both families involved.

  13. Bre on February 2nd, 2015 3:39 pm

I’ve been good friends with Runrun for a long time. This whole situation was nothing but a Freak accident. Everybody is trash talking Runrun, saying he deserves life. He killed his best friend, he has to live with that for the rest of his life. Isn’t that enough? Runrun deserves a second chance. God knows the truth, and he will set things straight. Keep your head up Runrun, things will get better for you. Just know you got all your friends and family supporting you until the end. And I will shout this until my last breath…..FREE RUNRUN! REST EASY JOHN BOY! PRAYERS TO BOTH FAMILYS FOR THIS TRAGIC ACCIDENT!

  14. Century Resident on February 2nd, 2015 2:30 pm

I don’t personally know either of the young men involved in this tragedy. However, it reminds me alot of a situation that occured in Century some years ago where 2 young men (best friends) were playing with a gun behind Camellia Garden’s apartment. The gun went off and a young man by the name of Raymond was killed. I was there and I remember the look of absolute horror on the look of his friend’s face when he realized that he’d shot and killed his best friend. It’s just tragic. Accident or not, both families lives will be changed forever. It’s just sad all around.

  15. rasbone on February 2nd, 2015 2:02 pm

I’m so sorry for the deceased and his family and friends and the shooters family and friends.I hope it was an accident but somethings not right here. The truth will come out.

  16. chris on February 2nd, 2015 12:49 pm

“Only God can judge” so all these circuit and county judges are in the wrong? John 7:24 – “Judge with righteous judgement.” A grown man used a gun, joking or not, and killed somebody else. He needs to face the music and man up. I don’t care if his name was bam bam or run run or whatever.

  17. Shawn on February 2nd, 2015 12:24 pm

As I sit here and read all these comments, I’m in complete shock at some of them. Absolutely no respect for the victim, Jonathan Wilson. Jonathan was a kind person, with a huge heart and wouldn’t hurt a soul. Jaron Myles is a grown man, and he was playing with a grown man toy. He shot Jonathan, accident or not.. Jonathan is gone and there is only one person who took his life, two lives will be forever lost. Two families will forever be broken. No parent or grandparent should ever have to bury their child. This was senseless act. People are saying FREE RUN RUN. Why? He killed another human being.. took away Jonathan’s last breath. Why did Jaron run? Why not stay and wait? Call 911? I’m so heartbroken for Jonathan and Jaron’s family. But the big difference is, Jaron’s family can still see their son, hug him, hear his voice, hear him say that he loves them. This will never be for Jonathan’s family. Jonathan is an angel up in heaven and his family will see him one day. One life taken way too soon. I pray for something good to come from this meaningless and foolish crime. May God Bless these families and hoping for a better world. Rest in Peace Jonathan Wilson.

Run Run + Gun Gun = Dumb Dumb
Stop saying “only God can judge”. God has empowered us to judge on earth, he (God) will judge your actions in the after life, so run run gonna get it twice.

  21. I have no name on February 2nd, 2015 2:28 am

run run yeah he did exactly that once he figured out what he done. he deserves to be put in jail. if it was accidentally why run.” Run Run”there must have been arguing for a innocent kid to get shot. that kid had no reason to die. pay the price should have never killed him and ran so you basically told on yourself no getting away with an accident now.

So many of our youth are dieing , my heart breaks for this generation. So desperate to find their place in this wicked world , searching for love & acceptance. Lord heal the mindsets of our generation, give them clarity In all the chaos let them see the hope of Glory which is in thy bosom oh Father God , have mercy JESUS have mercy …….

  23. Harley on February 2nd, 2015 12:13 am

I do not know either of these individuals, but I read the article and some of the comments and am disturbed by the individuals showing so little respect for the deceased and his family. Some are more concerned with “freeing run run”. Some say that the two boys were friends… I’m sorry, but myself being a person with morals, a conscience, and love for my friends find it utterly absurd that he could “accidentally” shoot his friend and run rather than call 911 or try to comfort and help him. The article doesn’t state which part of his body was shot, is it possible his life could have been saved had “his friend” cared about his friend who he just shot rather than saving his own self? And some of you still want this guy as a friend and are chanting about how great he is??? But I guess being a bad friend doesn’t land you in jail, but taking another persons life does. If run run does go free then you loyal friends of his may want to think about investing in a bullet proof vest because if your ever accidentally shot, your probably on your own.

  24. Stephanie Roach on February 2nd, 2015 12:12 am

I knew RunRun. I went to high school with him, I ran track with him, he is one of my friends. He is a sweetheart. What happened here was nothing more than a horrible accident. Johnathan was RunRuns best friend and RunRun has never had a violent bone in his body. He’s not a cold blooded killer like everyone us making him out to be. He made a mistake and is having to live with it. Stop and think how he feels. He killed his best friend. He ran because he was scared, stop saying you wouldn’t run. You don’t know what you’d do in a situation like that. Stop all of your hateful judging.

  25. Century resident on February 1st, 2015 11:14 pm

How is this century’s fault at all? And as far as it being the lowest economic town in the state with the highest crime, get the heck out of it. There is still good people here.. although everyone is stating run run is such a good person and this was an accident, that is obviously not the case If drugs was envolved.. He Is also 20 years old, he knows better than to be playing with a gun.. just saying.. He also held two other people at gun point for a ride from the crime he committed… Humm but he is the good person here??

  26. free run run on February 1st, 2015 10:37 pm

I’ve known run run since I was little I grew up around him an he is not the type of person to do that an yeah he did run afterwards he was scared pretty sure everyone would be but he did have the guts to turn himself in when he could’ve kept running but he didn’t I pray for John boys family ! Praying for the young mans family and loved ones that lost his life, so very young and his life had just got started . So preventable and so tragic I can’t even begin to imagine what his family is going through.

  30. Tanner Brooks on February 1st, 2015 7:36 pm

I pray for both families during this time. Both the families are going through enough, and does not need your rude comments. I have know runrun and his family my whole life, he was a great kid, had a huge heart. I’m not saying he is innocent, I was not there. But to say if he was innocent he wouldnt have ran, is ignorant. He was scared, it was one of his best friends. Nobody knows what he was thinking. The actions taking after the shooting does not look good and he will be punished. I pray for John boi’s family. And to everyone who has something negative to say, do us all a favor and keep it to your self.

  31. Big red on February 1st, 2015 7:25 pm

All these people supporting run run should know you don’t play with a gun gun. That’s all I’m going to say. Wait till you get all the details then make the same supporting comments. I bet it will be different. Pray for the family.

  32. shouldnt have happened on February 1st, 2015 6:51 pm

David Green, century isn’t to “blame”-but people become an imitation of their surroundings. Century is the lowest economic town in state with a known reputation for crime. Jaran is a great young man that had opportunities to leave the area and not be a product of his environment. There are people with the century zip code that are successful and contribute just as much as anyone in any other part of the world. Hopefully the investigation shows it was accedintal and he can grow and become a better man from it. That being said, century isn’t to blame, but it doesn’t help someone stray from a violent lifestyle.

  33. wow on February 1st, 2015 6:50 pm

I knew jaron he wasn’t the best of people like he is being painted..a family is mourning because of stupidity.. Justice will be served!!

  34. Tiredofthis on February 1st, 2015 5:27 pm

This is ridiculous. Why is everyone so concerned about “runrun”, Johnathon is the one who lost his life. Why would they even free this guy? It clearly states he held two other people at gunpoint. Yeah sounds so accidental. Bless this boys family, and give runrun life, because he took someone else’s.

I’m thinking: I used to work up in that area in Home Health, visiting folks. LOTS of folks. Can’t help wondering if I knew this man when he was a baby. I worked there eighteen and a half years ago. HOW did a sweet innocent little baby grow up to be able to kill someone? Breaks my heart. May God help this man and both families. Yes, the enemy is VERY VERY busy. Now, more than ever. It is time for The Body of Christ to get up off our pews and whatever else we are stuck to and DO what He said to do in whatever way we can and as He leads. The servants of the enemy seem to be putting in overtime. :’(
