Two County Bridges Set For Replacement By FDOT
February 26, 2015
The Florida Department of Transportation is set to replace two North Escambia bridges. The bridges have reached deterioration to warrant replacement by the state as part of FDOT’s Five-Year Work Plan.
The bridges are the Dortch Road bridge over Beaver Dam Creek, and the County Road 97A bridge over Boggy Creek.
The Dortch Road Bridge, near Bratt, is a 61.4 foot long wood piling support bridge that was constructed in 1965. The County Road 97A bridge over Boggy Creek, near Enon, is a 121.4 foot long wood piling support bridge that was constructed in 1969.
The replacement funding and construction work will be provided by FDOT. Once the bridges are complete, Escambia County will be responsible for their maintenance. There timetable for the project is not yet available.

Not gonna start a debate with you “common sense”. I disagree with your assumption as there is access from Old Bratt road and Hwy 4. If you lived on the road and had to deal with the speeders and finding meth labs next to your house, then you can speak to things you do not know about. Again, is this the best use of tax dollars for a road that really doesn’t supply a service to the residents?
Great idea that way EMS, Law Enforcement and Fire responce will take that much longer to get down the road, I’m sure your neighbors would love your idea though…why not just shut down ALL roads if that’s the case @ Local Y,
And here’s NorthEscambia’s article on Dortch Rd’s bridge:
Dortch Road Bridge To Re-Open; Highway 164 Bridge Remains Closed
April 29, 2013
Now less than two years after repairs, the bridge has to be replaced? How much was paid for those repairs?
Wasn’t the Dortch Road bridge re-worked under a county contract not long ago?
Please tell us they are going to put in a tempary bridge on 97-A!
Why waste the money on the Dortch Rd bridge? Why not just close the road? It is not like there aren’t routes around it. It mainly is a cut through road for drunks and rift raft! Did the county bother to ask the locals and nearby homeowners their opinion about it’s use? Probably find the majority would like to see it closed to stop the traffic and druggies dropping off their meth labs, trash and stray dogs! Ok…let the rude and negative comments begin!!!!
