Reimagine Century Returning This Year With Hope For Those In Need

February 8, 2015

Reimagine Century is returning this year with hope for those in need, and organizers are meeting this week to make plans.

Community agencies, businesses, churches and others will come together on Saturday, May 16 to help the needy in Century and surrounding areas. Activities planned include a food giveaway, clothing giveaway, free haircuts and manicures, free laundry detergent and much more.

“The Century community and surrounding areas are such a blessing to all who visit. This was the sentiment of every church, business, community service organization, and ministry during the first Reimagine Century event held last year in September that all who were involved would like to return for the 2015 event,” Linda English, event organizer, said.

Anyone that wishes to be involved in the event is invited to a volunteer meeting at 7:00 Tuesday evening at the Century Community Center at the corner of West Highway 4 and Industrial Boulevard.

Suggest asking the recipients to volunteer, I “imagine” that they would appreciate that.

The word Imagine means Vision, Hope…”You may say, I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”

It is funny that you mention fishing. Among the ministers of this great body of believers and Doers of His Word is a man who teaches young men how to fish! Not only to fish for food, but also to be fishers of men. Also freely given on this day will be prayer, encouragement, career sourcing, college information, health information, love, smiles, and a Word from the Most High. Come and see what Century looks like thru the eyes of God.

I like to imagine is that Century would once again be a thriving community with people working in some industry that has moved into what was once the hub of a great lumber industry and then became the home of Jim Walter Doors where hard working people could earn a living. I want to imagine that each family here, both black and white, have a mom and dad in the house who limit the number of children they have to the number they can feed and clothe.
I would like to imagine that the government and the people who want to help would encourage responsibility for the people in our community.
It is good to bring in the groceries and make a big show of support but the bottom line is—Bring a man a fish and you feed him for a day—teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

Am I missing something here? Is there something to teach folks to take care of themselves or is this an outright giveaway? If we want to reimagine Century…I would hope it would be that this would become a working community and not one of continual handouts. When do we finally understand constantly supporting people who don’t support themselves only teaches them to wait for support? I know there are some in genuine need…but usually the same folks show up for the freebies.
