Ransom Middle Science Teacher Not Heading To Mars

February 17, 2015

A Ransom Middle School teacher is no longer in the running for a trip to begin human life on Mars in 2025. Louis O’Rear did not make the latest cut to the list of candidates for the Mars One program that will send four people on a one-way trip to Mars.

O’Rear, a science teacher, will have a chance to head to the Johnson Space Center in Houston this summer for a Mars mission simulation.

He did four or five years ago when I was there. I’m sure he still does. :)

I was in Mr. O’Rear’s class 20 years ago. (I can’t believe it’s been that long) He gave us an assignment that if we could complete it, we would get an A in the class and not have to do ANY work. The assignment: write out every number from one to one million. I doubt anyone ever finished the assignment. I think I gave up at twelve thousand, but I understood his point about how large of a number one million is. He definitely keeps it interesting. I wonder if he still gives that assignment?

I remember Mr O’Rear when I was in Ransom, best science teacher ever. If a science teacher can be in the running to go to Mars, then this story can insider any child that no dream is to small. Even though he’s not going to mars he was lucky enough to get the opportunity to try succeeded, great job Mr O’Rear.

Might want to hold out for the round-trip option in case the Martian weather is bad.
