Escambia County Lighting Up The Night In Ensley Area

February 26, 2015

Escambia County is working to light up the night in portions of the Ensley area.

The Operation Night Light Project is underway in the Ensley Redevelopment District. Outdoor lights are being installed to help lower crime rates, increase property values and deter activities that can negatively affect the quality of life of neighborhood residents.

This stage of the project, funded by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), consists of 94 LED Cobrahead fixtures to be installed within the Ensley Redevelopment District. Currently 24 of the 94 LED lights have been installed on the west side of the railroad tracks along Johnson Avenue and Chemstrand Road. Installation is expected to be completed around mid-March.

Is there not some sort of covering that could protect the bulbs from being shot out?Seems like something could or should be created for it. Who’s ready for Shark Tank? Wish I was smart enough. LOL!

It irks me to no end that the county will be keeping the light bill paid, and maintaining these lights while I pay $8 a month for mine. So much for equality in services from the county

Streetlights or not. It will not detour any crime in these high crime areas. The only thing will fix this is bulldozers a backhoe and a few dump trucks. These criminals will only shoot them out and cost tax payers more money for gulf power to fix them. If camera don’t work what make you think more light will.

Recently, a study by the University of West Florida showed that Escambia County has a GREATER / Higher Crime Rate than most of the rest of counties in the USA.

Florida, as a state has a Higher Crime Rate than the majority of other states.

Anything that helps reduce the opportunity for seclusion and stealth in the darkness can be a help in reducing, or making move visible, criminal activities. All for the lighting and citizen involvement — know something Speak Up — to help slow this down.

Rarely hear of US Federal agencies active in our area. Are they still working here or is it all behind the scenes?

I cannot help but notice a commonality between these high crime areas, and it has little to do with street lights.

People do not like to discuss commonalities at present, but are increasingly being forced to confront and in some cases, make disposition of them.

Wow, cool! Does this mean the streetlights we pay (on our residential power bills) to keep burning out here past Cantonment will soon be free under some Project? Is there a Cantonment/Cottage Hill/Molino Redevelopement District? Where are our free streetlights? :)
