Public Tips Lead To Suspect’s Arrest For Attacking, Robbing Elderly Man

January 27, 2015

Thanks to tips from the public, John Lee Avery Hill, 29, is behind bars for attacking and robbing an elderly man.

Hill is charged with battery, burglary and robbery for the incident November 24 in the lobby of a hotel on Plantation Road when he allegedly asked an 81-year old man for money. After the man gave him $5, deputies say Hill followed him, jumped on him and tried to take his wallet.  Hill was unsuccessful in taking the wallet, but did take an additional $2 from the victim before fleeing on foot.

Hill is being held in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $255,000.

@gman the only problem with your scenario is that if a person is being sought for killing someone the police don’t exactly want the criminal to know they know who it is so that he can run. Im assuming since they’ve released his photo now that they are unable to locate him.

Glad this guy is off the street. Hope it for a long time. Attacking an elderly man after he had been so kind as to give him money. How do these ppl live with themselves? Its scary to think as I, myself, have an elderly parent and hate to think she is vunerable like this.

We can only hope that his charges are elevated to assault and battery on the elderly.

Could of and should of been behind bars in late November or early December had law enforcement shared the photo with local media earlier. We are the eyes and ears out there who want to help, just ask.
