One Injured In Morning Highway 97 Crash

One person was injured in a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Walnut Hill Tuesday morning.

The accident happened about 5:40 a.m. on Highway 97 between Mason and Tungoil roads. The driver of a Cadillac CTS left the roadway in a curve, went airborne, landed in a ditch and ran into a wooded area.

The driver, a 20-year old female from Atmore, was transported to Atmore Community Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Escambia County EMS also responded to the crash.

    There must be something done about the deer population in our entire area. They are too abundant. More does need to be killed yet Fish and Wildlife have such guidelines on the number that can be killed. I think a Committee should be formed to seek ways to cut down on the deer population . In other states this is needed also. Some insurance companies in other states give their customers to put alarms on their cars to help scare the deer on the highways. I feel strongly this what caused this young lady’s accident

    Micky you are so right,for all of those reasons,you can avoid seeing the deer at that time of day.97 is notorious on deer wrecks

    Exactly right Mick. Just add up single vehicle accidents in 2014 for this area alone. We,d really be blown away. maybe NE.com has a total

    Inexperience, speed, fatigue, inattentiveness, cell phones and last but not least, texting – any and all lead to accidents – Hwy 97 requires constant driver focus regardless of the time of day. Add up the year’s accidents on this road alone we’d all be surprised.
