Dognapping? Family Dog Missing After Being Hit By Vehicle

January 14, 2015

A local family is looking for their “fur baby”, and a little bit of closure, after the dog was apparently hit by a car Monday morning.  “Coal”, a blue pit, has been the baby of the Johnson family for about five years.

Kim Johnson said she let Coal outside about 6 a.m. Monday. Normally, Coal would have stayed in the backyard, but for some reason he went around front of their home on Rockaway Creek Road, just south of the Florida/Alabama state line.

“I heard them hit my dog, stop and then I heard a few choice words and the vehicle door slam,” Johnson said. “My fur baby is nowhere to be found. Did you take our dog after you hit him? We need some closure.”

She said the family realizes Coal could have ran away after being hit, but they are very concerned that he may have been picked up by the driver.  The vehicle, Johnson said, appeared to be a silver or white SUV. Area veterinarians are on alert, but so far there’s no sign of Coal.

“I’m in no way blaming someone because we do realize accidents happen. We just need some peace,” she said.

If you have any information about Coal, call Kim at (850) 698-3422, Robbie at (850) 698-3423, or the Atmore Ambulance office at (251) 368-3003.

It is definitely possible that the person put the dog in their vehicle to try and get help after your baby was hit. I hope you will find him soon. Don’t forget there is a classified section on NorthEscambia also so you can run an ad that will be available longer.

I can understand if there is not a collar for identification why a person would not just leave the dog in the road. If I hit one, I would try to help it as best that I could. The owner should check out leads like the McDavid mini mart and/or call local vets.

Heart breaking. I hope whoever hit the dog will contact you. So many lost animals. It is so very sad.

Article does not mention the dog being let out into a fenced area.
Hope the dog survives to live a long life.

Quite a while ago, someone ran over my sisters cat just as she was pulling into her driveway. Then when she got her kids inside and went outside to check the dead cat, it had vanished. We think the guy who hit him took him. People are just weird nowadays.

My pit bull also got hit Friday. The boy came to the door and said I barely hit her, and she ran off into the woods. We still can’t find her.

I was coming into Mcdavid yesterday afternoon and a dog caught my eye. It was grey with a white chest and belly and im not sure but I almost KNOW it was a pit. I don’t know if this was your dog or not but maybe it’s worth a look. I seen him about 1/2 mile south of the Mcdavid mini mart sitting beside hwy 29. I hope this may help!
