Santa Trades Sleigh For Fire Truck (With Photo Gallery)
December 21, 2014
Santa traded in his sleigh Saturday for a big red fire truck as he visit many boys and girls in neighborhoods across North Escambia.
NorthEscambia.com was along for the ride as Santa rode along with the McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, visiting with dozens of children, listening carefully to those last minute wish lists. Along the way, Santa stopped off to see a Christian Home community woman who is battling cancer; she had a special gift of cookies for Santa and the firemen.

The paid departments can’t do the santa runs due to lack of man-power. In order for the santa run to happen they have to have an officer and 4 other personnel along with santa just to move the truck. Makes it hard on even the volunteer departments.
Cantonment Fire Dept did this for years before they became a paid dept. We always had a great time and really enjoyed doing this for the community of Cantonment. Sometimes parents told us that Santa on the fire truck was the only Santa their kids ever saw. We’d start the day after Thanksgiving and go out every night until 9 pm and all day Saturday until Christmas Eve. We kept a map in the station to make sure we didn’t miss any roads. Many seniors also enjoyed our visits to them. Thanks to all the fire department members that took part in this every year and to their families that gave them up every night to allow them to participate. JOB WELL DONE!
Thank u so much McDavid fire Dept. And Santa for doing this, my boys look forward to this every year!! Everyone I tell about it thinks its the coolest thing that Santa comes to my house in a fire truck!!
