Florida Same Sex Couples Fight Extending Legal Stay

December 2, 2014

Update to this story: http://www.northescambia.com/2014/12/florida-gay-marriage-ban-could-be-lifted-in-january

Pointing to an “avalanche” of court rulings, attorneys for same-sex couples have asked a federal appeals court to reject Attorney General Pam Bondi’s attempt to at least temporarily extend Florida’s ban on gay marriage.

U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle in August ruled that the ban was unconstitutional but placed a stay on his decision to allow time for appeals. That stay is scheduled to expire January 5.

Bondi last month asked the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to keep the stay in place until appeals are complete. But in two filings last week, attorneys for same-sex couples requested that the appeals court let the stay expire. In part, they pointed to federal court rulings that struck down similar gay-marriage bans in other states.

“The (plaintiffs) and same-sex couples across the state are subjected to irreparable harm every day they are forced to live without the security and protections marriage provides,” said one of the documents, filed by American Civil Liberties Union attorneys who represent one group of plaintiffs. “As they wait, children will be born, partners and spouses will get sick, and some will die. Each day that passes, some people will pass away without ever having been able to marry the person they love or to have their marriage recognized in their home state, depriving their surviving spouse of important protections.”

“As for being religious, as was stated, they will have to answer to God, but do not make the rest of us go against what is true.”

Good news BMR, nobody is going to force you to marry someone of the same sex, therefore nobody is forcing you to go against anything! Gay marriage won’t affect your life one bit as long as you don’t keep worrying about other people’s personal lives.

Awesome. We need to let God make the rules. Adultery angers God.

    To Kevin.

True Christians can judge sin. True Christians do not need to accept nor agree with sinful deeds. Strike one for you.

CW. I never said I didn’t like homosexuals. I suggest you go back and reread the post again.

Horray!! Florida will be one of the newest states in January. Thank goodness we have judges that recognize the inequality in marriage!!

    To Kevin, and to CW.

I never said I didn’t love anyone, you only assume that. For that you are completely wrong. I do not care for their life style, neither does God, nor Jesus, so there for I put my alliance with what is right. As for there soul yes I must love them. Wrong is Wrong, whether your a homosexual or a pedophile all is sin. God loves the sinner you are correct, he hates the sin. As for being religious, as was stated, they will have to answer to God, but do not make the rest of us go against what is true.

Our country was built on the principle of separation of church and state. Bible thumpers are free to believe what they like, but have no right to force their beliefs on others. If you want to deprive gays of the right to marry based upon the whole procreation argument, then it should be illegal for seniors to marry or any other couple who are unable to conceive.

Pam Bondi has been married and divorced several times. She is a hypocrite that is only interested in pandering to the far right extremists. Let equal rights for all prevail in Florida!

Keep standing for what is right concerning gay marriage, Pam Bondi. Us Christians are standing with you. Thank you for trying to keep things right in Florida, according to God’s word! And kevin, i do love all my neighbors gay or straight. God tells us to love the sinner but hate the sin. We do all sin….none are perfect…but gay marriage is wrong!

Thank you Pam. Stand for what’s right. If a gay couple wants to get married, they can go to another state to do it. Don’t allow that here.

Proud Citizen take a look at Pam Bondi’s marriage record, yes keeping in accordance with the ‘good book’. Politicians have an agenda. Marriage equality will happen so get over it.

    CW….exactly!

We have been married for ten years, just recently moved to Florida and can not believe how ignorant the voting public is when it comes to the issue of same sex marriage. Used to live in Florida in the 90’s my other half had to go to the emergency room from kidney stones was not allowed in room or given any information. If I was his girlfriend it would have been different. As far as the lords work Pam Bondi is not married to the man she lives with is this not a sin. As far as your perverted minds as to what a gay or lesbian couple does keep your mind in your own bedroom. It’s not the Gays or Lesbians that are the child molesters but typically straight married men. I could go on and on but it isn’t worth my breath, perhaps Pam Bondi shouldn’t spend so much time taking freebee trips and political gifts and tend to more important issues besides a loosing battle on the same sex marriage issue.

Thank you Pam Bondi, keep up the good work that is in accordance with the Good Book. We all will be better for it.

To bmr. A real Christian does not spend time judging others and throwing Adam and Eve and others face a real Christian loves everybody just as the Lord loves us. We all sin and we all fall short of the glory of God. But it is not your job to judge it is God’s job your job is to love your neighbor as you love yourself and as u love the Lord

    Bmr,
You need to realize not everyone is religious, therefore your reference to Romans 1 or whatever doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. Find another excuse for not liking gay people, I’m sure it won’t be too hard for you to come up with one.

  16. bmr on December 2nd, 2014 11:58 am

You know what, if you would live a normal life you would not have to worry about such laws. In the beginning it was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Reread Romans 1 the entire Chapter. Praises to Pam Bondi for holding Biblical over political.
