Alleged Drug Dealer Beats Century Man Over Unpaid Drug Debt

December 22, 2014

A local man has been charged with allegedly beating another man with a pipe in a Century street over a drug debt.

The 61-year old victim told Escambia County deputies that he was walking  in the area of Jefferson Avenue and Mincy Court in Century when he was attacked by 33-year old Johnnie Leethomas Carter. The victim said he drove up, got out of his car, and struck him several times in the face with his fist before hitting him in the back of the head with a metal pipe.

The victim told deputies, according to an arrest report, that Carter beat him because he had not paid up for a previous drug deal. He said he could positively identify Carter from the neighborhood and previous drug deals.

The victim was transported by Escambia County EMS to Jay Hospital with a bloody nose, a profusely bleeding busted lip and a large knot and cut on the back of his head.

Deputies located Carter a short time later and placed him under arrest during a  traffic stop at Jefferson Avenue and Pond Street. On Carter’s person, deputies reported finding a plastic bag containing what tested positive for crack cocaine.

Carter was charged with felony possession of crack cocaine and felony aggravated battery causing bodily harm.  Deputies also seized his 2007 Lincoln MKX and $523 in cash.

Carter was released from the Escambia County Jail on on a $5,000 bond.

Why is everybody convinced that all drug dealers, espescially a CENTURY drug dealer, makes thousands and thousands of dollars a week? Dont see very many of em with decent cars or even halfway decent homes.most are users just supporting their own habbit.just sayin…

This was very shocking…This man coached my sons football team last season…If I would have known he was a drug dealer my son would have never played under him…Coaches are supposed to mentor our children not show them it is ok to be a drug dealer…I honestly hope this man never gets to coach another child as long as he lives..He is defiantly not a good roll model for his child or anyone else’s child..I will keep my eyes open next season to see if this man coaches if he does I will do whatever in my power to get him away from those children..

Dear mommie69, if there were no dopeheads there would be no drug dealers. Not saying the dealers are good, but the American entrepreneurial spirit says demand will be met with supply, whether legal or not. Remember, the Gettys were originally moonshiners. :)

Obviously he didn’t learn his lesson when he lost his college ftball scholarship bc he was arrested for selling drugs! Smh and to think my son played ball for a team he coached…and looked up to him! Such a great role model for his own son and the kids that call him “Coach Johnnie”

Dear mike you talk about the dpoe heads what about the dope pushers they deserve the same punishment

$5000 bond of which he pays about 10% (or $500) when he makes thousands at the drop of a hat? This guy must have a lot of judges in his pocket or those judges were all in their cups and unable to think straight.
I wonder if they understood the word “FELONY”?

All that needs to be said is related in previous comments. Bro, don’t like folks trying to put a crimp in his “pipe.” He could have yelled…”Hands up” and maybe the prep would have backed off. :-) )))

Wow scary. He was an assistant coach for century when my son was with rec. Football. Just goes to show ya. You dont know who your kids are being subjected to anymore.

He cracked a guy in the head with a pipe. Does that make it a Crack pipe? He should be charged with possession of one of those, too.

Drug related crimes per capita, would that make Century the leading city in Florida ? It already leads as the poorest as stated in an resent news article.

  11. cygie on December 22nd, 2014 10:08 am

In either the consumption of crack or in the collection of monies owed for said crack, a pipe was involved. Just sayin’.

He shouldnt even got a bond, he shoulda stayed in jail till he went to court… this is sad an you see y the police act the way they do round century… it went too far he didn’t need a pipe to harm him, it coulda been handled a different way.. hopefully the judge will handle it a little better!

    A cowardly and brutal attack.

  14. Mike on December 22nd, 2014 9:31 am

The low bond might have been because the judge understood that he was performing a public service, all dopeheads (crackheads, pillbillies, etc.) need & deserve a good heavy lead pipe to the head. His main crime is that he did not finish the job. :)

Keep tolerating the same bad behavior and you will keep getting the same results.

  16. E on December 22nd, 2014 9:10 am

Who was the judge that set bond so we’ll know come elections.

  17. just listening on December 22nd, 2014 8:21 am

Bond should be at 50,000 as I am sure his Drug Buddies posted a Cash bond. This would cause them to dig a little deeper. Using a Pipe becomes a deadly weapon and there was no charge for that . Just saying

  18. 5k on December 22nd, 2014 7:50 am

$5,000. Bond for 2 felony charges? No wonder we keep having so many people out on bond committing more crimes!
This guy wasn’t in jail long enough to miss one sale of his drugs!
    Smh

  19. Mike on December 22nd, 2014 7:49 am

Well, if you are gonna be a dopehead you gotta pay your debts or take your licks. The collection agencies for this are not as nice as those for normal everyday type bills. :)

  20. steve on December 22nd, 2014 7:11 am

must be a low level street drug dealer.

  21. Not From Century on December 22nd, 2014 7:04 am

Just when you think Century is about to turn the corner it is back to the same old criminal stuff. On a positive note Carter can sing a few Christmas songs while he’s in the pokey, like “I’ll be home for Christmas” even if it’s only in his dreams.

  22. molino jim on December 22nd, 2014 6:37 am

And some people thought banks and credit card companies were hard to deal with.

  23. TG on December 22nd, 2014 6:26 am

Dont you just love these cheap bonds. He makes more than this a week tax free.

  24. 429SCJ on December 22nd, 2014 6:02 am

Drugs and credit in the Tri City Metro. Sounds like a good place for a bad mix.

Sometimes I believe that there must be some kind of inter- dimensional conduit in Century, because just when you start to think that all the criminals must surly have been arrested already, a new one pops up.

Wormholes or just good journalism and reporting?

  25. c.w. on December 22nd, 2014 5:47 am

Why wasn’t this man charged with attempted murder with no bond? A pipe to the head is not playing.

  26. traumaqueen on December 22nd, 2014 5:27 am

So much wrong with this whole situation on so many levels. Sad.

  27. Sam on December 22nd, 2014 4:36 am

He can now assault other people and continue to sell drugs. And you wonder whats wrong with the justice system?

  28. wonder on December 22nd, 2014 1:00 am

He was a NWE coach, Did he coach at Century this year? He has been arrested before for drugs.
