County Administrator Jack Brown Offered Three Year Contract

December 22, 2014

When Jack Brown started work as Escambia County administrator last June, he had accepted a one year contract and moved from Perry, FL, where he was serving as Taylor County Administrator.

And now, about halfway through that first year, the Escambia County Commission has voted to offer Brown a three year contract plus to one year extensions. His annual salary will be $170,000. The salary amount was based upon similar positions in the state.

County Commissioner Steven Barry was placed in charge of working out details like severance pay, and return to the commission in January with a complete contract for approval.

If hes gona make that kind of money,he needs to clean up people that has made a bad name in all departments in the county. one big shot is gone so now lets get rid of unwanted waste. If they earned the money they get it would be different.

No offense, but I am reserving any thoughts on how good he is until I see what he can do. So far I have not been impressed by the County Commissioners or the Administrators in the past. One of them (unnamed) stood in front of a group of people discussing the chicken ordinance and said he didn’t know you needed roosters to make more chickens. Point made.

the salary of elected officials is set by a formula devised by the Florida legislature based on the population of each County. The greater the population base the more an elected official will make.

Now, if they only tied employee raises of the rank and file to that of those the elected officials receive.

I am willing to see a quality person paid a bit more money to help Escambia County grow and thrive. Short sightedness has been a problem in our county for years, and it shows. Look where everyone goes for spring break! Panama City. Those $$$$ would be very beneficial for our community! While I would not enjoy the crowds at the beach during that time of the year, I could stand it for the benefit to the community. I hope Mr. Brown brings the fresh blood that we need in this part of the state!

What makes him so special !!! $170.000.00 Our school Superintendent. doesn’t make close to that. A he has more people working under him. He will be next, a raise for the superintendent. I think we should bring that pay down to around $120.000.00 yearly. What do we get for $170.000.00 except for more debt hanging over the taxpayer. Money is not going to fix Escambia county.
