Serious Injuries In Friday Night Cantonment Crash

November 15, 2014

At least two people were transported to area hospitals as “trauma alerts” following a crash at Highway 29 and Woodland Street in Cantonment Friday night.

The two people were in a pickup involved with a collision with a passenger car. At least one was partially ejected from the truck, while the other was trapped in their vehicle following the crash.

The Ensley, Molino and McDavid stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the crash, along with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia County EMS. The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol; further details have not been released.

The FHP has not released any further info

Is there going to be any update on this story? As me and my husband were the ones who stopped and my husband spoke to the 911 operator for the driver of the car, I’d like to know how everyone is doing. Especially the driver of the truck.

I have never seen such negative comments on something as serious as this.. Not one time did I read of anyone asking how the people are… This world is going down fast and we all need to wake up in smell coffee, We all need to start looking for the good in things and quit judging before we know the whole story and the facts…SMH

    Maybe it was three fold
    1 ran out of alcohol
2 on the phone looking for more
3 Distracted from thinking there was a light here

Doesn’t really matter huh. We hope everyone will be okay and understand that no matter what, there will always be wrecks large and small.

Why is it when something happens people scream traffic light needs to be there ? Traffic lights are fine but it does not solve the problem that everybody is in such a rush to get somewhere. It is so sad that al these people are getting hurt and killed .
I drive these same roads everyday. I have seen more then my fair share of stupid driving on hwy29 We all have seen it and we all have made some stupid driving choice. But a red light would not stop that at all. Please tell me how much time you really save by rushing and pulling out when you don’t have a clear view . NONE . How much time have you saved by killing yourself or someone else or by being in the hospital. NONE . And tell me how you sleep knowing that your bad choice has caused so much damage. Some times accidents are blameless but 99% of the time someone is at fault and it is something that could have been changed if they would have just used their head. And when the accidents don’t stop and there is a traffic light at every corner what will people blame things on then ? Too many lights ?

Just everybody slow down stop rushing other drivers on the road. Make sure we get where we need to go as safely as possible.Instead of defensive driving how about respectful driving. Because you never know when the next time it could be you or worse yet someone you love.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of all the recent accidents. . ANd everybody drive safely

I agree with Bev. Stop the accustions. It’s disheartening to read the majority of comments on any given story such as this. It seems as if many people simply can’t refrain from posting self righteous and judgemental ramblings which are undoubtedly hurtful to others. My thoughts are those involved in this accident and their families, regardless of fault or contributing factors.

  7. Bev on November 15th, 2014 8:18 pm

    Any update on their condition?

All due respect, please shut the accusations up. I was first on scene, went to the firestatiin for help, but the trucks were gone. It was a VERY disturbing scene that I will never be able to shake. I had my five year old son in the car and by the time I got back, men were stopping. I had to get him away… he saw too much.

Please just pray for the victims and their families.

I have not seen anything in the report that William put out that cell phones were in use or that the lack of a traffic light caused this accident! Until it is released that one or the other caused this people shouldn’t just write or say it was so. Me, I am just glad the emergency response people were there to help and or save lives.
I hope all are ok and will be out and about soon. Thank you William for the facts you gave and not the speculation that everyone seems to have!!!

I’m tellin ya, a traffic light at every intersection in Escambia Co. Fl would solve this. There would never be any more wrecks. Kinda like you can drink yourself sober!

Hope everyone is ok from this accident.

No we do not need a light every 100 yards. Thats over kill. Yes, we desperately need a light at 97 and 29. We have several minor accidents there every week and a few major ones every month. And when Molino park or Ernest Ward let out its a nightmare.

People r going to text and drive. Its stupid but nothing will stop it because “you cant fix stupid” But before texting they were shaving and putting on make up. I dont know the answer. Stricter laws? Higher fines? More police? Better driver education? Who knows.

You all say they were on the phone as if y’all have a camera view in their car watching what they were doing. Smh. Grow up people. Every time someone wrecks doesn’t mean they were on their phones. It could of been of natural causes, or maybe they were not paying attention and maybe they were on their phone. None of this knows that. Gosh, you people must not be familiar with what assuming does. Get a grip.

  12. me on November 15th, 2014 9:44 am

OH NO!!! Better put a traffic light up. Maybe Hwy 29 needs a traffic light every 100 yards.

  13. MolinoLady on November 15th, 2014 9:35 am

It is so easy to say ‘I will not answer my phone while driving’ and do not answer, The world will not come to an end if we do not answer but it may come to an end if we do.

  14. juju on November 15th, 2014 9:01 am

praying everyone is okay…but you cannot put traffic lights us everywhere….that is not the cure…the cure is that people pay attention ….stop texting…stop talking on their phones and do not try to rush….it is the NASCAR mentality. more people ..more cars …more wrecks

The main issue is people still texting and driving. In the last week alone I have seen more than 30 people doing that. Put down the dang phones. They are not that important to risk lives to read or send texts while driving. I have 3 kids and when we travel I get nervous because idiots don’t know how to pay attention.

    >>Why did the Cantonment station not respond? This was literally on their front door!

They were on another call at the time.

It appears one traffic light will do no good. Perhaps 29 should be closed.

  19. bama on November 15th, 2014 6:04 am

put up a light everyone thinks this is the answer o these wrecks ,, when in fact a rolling stop will not prevent anything ,, I witnessed one at 97/29 yesterday ,, yea he almost got me , People need to learn to drive and learn to watch,,
