Assistant Escambia County Administrator Larry Newsom Resigns
November 6, 2014
Escambia County Assistant County Administrator Larry Newsom has resigned, according to county officials.
Newsom tendered his resignation “in order to pursue other opportunities,” county spokesman Bill Pearson said. Amy Lovoy, the county’s Management and Budget Services department director, has been named as the county’s interim assistant county administrator.
During his tenure at Escambia County, Newsom served as interim county administrator in 2010 after the non-renewal of Bob McLaughlin’s county, after the firing of Administrator Randy Oliver in 2012, and beginning in December 2013 until the resignation and then passing of George Touart until current Administrator Jack Brown was hired in April 2014.
When not serving in an administrator position, Newsom worked as the manger of the Transportation and Traffic Division.

if he would have made county adminstinistrator this would have been a bad move.he always wanted things sweep under the rug.if you were poor the heck with you if youre rich he would listen.thank goodness hes gone.
Good Luck to you Mr. Newsom in your future endeavors. You will be missed by the citizens of Escambia county. You did a great job for us , and we sure hate to see you go.
This is good for the county.
Mr. Newsom was trained under George Touart and had too much time operating in that kind of manner. Just like a new, unconnected administrator was good for Escambia County, this development will let the professional administration staff act as the professionals they were trained to be, without fear of reprisals.
What I have seen from Administrator Jack Brown has been good so far and this makes me more hopeful. Now, with a reasonable District 2 commissioner, we have hope for the board getting things done and much less needless drama.
“in order to pursue other opportunities,” county spokesman Bill Pearson said.
That is a nice way to say his new boss, Mr. Brown did not want his assistant (who had been doing a pretty good job) to be around to take his job.
Having an assistant that could replace you so easily at a moments notice made Mr. Brown nervous.
Now the BOCC will have to work with Mr. Brown and will have nobody they can use as a threatened replacement “hammer” against Mr. Brown.
What the county should have done is make Larry the County Administrator instead of doing all the searches for someone from out of the area. But the way this County works, they would not be happy without some type of conflict!
Time to move to bigger and better oportunities. Thats how it works.
