ECSO: Century Man Threatens To Kill His Mom Over Her Cooking

October 2, 2014

A 19-year Century resident allegedly threatened to kill his mother with a knife because he was upset over the lunch she prepared.

Austin Lane Mosley, 19, was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident in the 200 block of Hudson Hill Road.

His mother told Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies that she and Mosely got into an argument over the food she had made for lunch, and he grabbed the food and threw it on the floor. As she grabbed her cell phone, Mosley tried to grab the phone and began to swing several punches that missed the 41-year old female, an arrest report states. Mosley then waved what appeared to be a black filet knife at his mother from outside a window, stating that he was going to “filet her open”, the report states.

A witness told deputies that he also heard Mosley threaten to kill his mother.

Mosley was booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond. He was  released Wednesday night on a $100 bond after the bond amount was lowered by Judge Ross Goodman.

    REMBERING:
“This steak is burnt, greasy and tough.”
“Yep, just the way Mama cooked it.” and I dug in, joyfully, remembering my youth.
(Just joking, we routinely cut Mama’s steak with our forks — and a little charcoal never hurt anybody.)

    REGARDING:
“OMG! What’s wrong with society today?”

    SOCIETY didn’t do it.
    An individual did.
It would be unreasonable to blame everybody else for the actions of one person.

    AND
“When schools and popular culture teach that everyone is entitled to whatever they want, when every kid gets a trophy just for (usually) showing up, this is what you get.”

Please note that other members of society have not responded this way.
Therefore, neither schools nor popular culture are responsible for his personal actions.
    HE is.

    AND
“Please, open up your eyes. It’s very apparent here that the kid has some sort of mental disorder or is on drugs. ”

You’re saying there’s something wrong with him if what happened is as reported?
    WHODATHUNK?

    David for self-cooked meals,
sanity, honesty and Mama — the best

Here’s a solution..get a job and your own place to live and buy your own food and cook your own lunch!!!! Grow the hell up and stop living off your mama.If my son acted like that there would be no need for jail..He would be in an ER room some where…

  4. Bob's Brother on October 3rd, 2014 6:45 am

The kid has gotten a good look at the inside of a real jail. If he can’t see what’s in store for him if he continues on this path, then he’ll never change. Some solid counceling and evaluation is what the lad needs. ….. and maybe a butt whoopin.

Please tell me the $100.00 bond is a typo. I wouldn’t dare treat my mom like that. She 50#’s lighter, and 5″ shorter than me, and she would kick my back end all over the county!

  6. Mark T on October 2nd, 2014 8:15 pm

This has nothing to do with public schools..

  7. Mark T on October 2nd, 2014 8:11 pm

This is an example of the self centered and me first attitudes of way too many in today’s society.. Doesn’t get what he wants and throws a fit.. Give him 30 days in jail to reflect on what he’s doing to his family..

Hogkiller31 – if you could see past your nose you would know what Gembeaux was talking about.

$100 bond?????? This has to be a typo! Shame on Judge Ross for that terrible joke.

Tried to kill his mother for what she cooked for lunch…umm, yes, we will judge him as a maniac that should be locked up. Mentally ill or not, that doesn’t excuse his potentially murderous behaviour. It’s this “feel good” mentality that is wrong with America these days. We refuse to acknowledge and deal with evil. Keep sticking your head in the sand…Unfortunately we all suffer as a result of many people’s refusal to deal with reality. There will one be no more sand to stick one’s head into…and then what will one do?

  12. tiredoftiredofignorance on October 2nd, 2014 12:51 pm

Tiredofigorance.. please, go hug a tree somewhere. You claim to be tired of judgmental people, but you unequivocally turn around and do the same to those who express opinions. Shame on us? No, I say shame on you.

  13. Harvey stacey on October 2nd, 2014 12:36 pm

My step father made that mistake once. I laid his butt out i his front yard.. The mother should have took up a broom stick and beat the living filthy words here out of the brat

  14. HOGKILLER31 on October 2nd, 2014 10:40 am

GEMBEAUX WHAT DOES SCHOOL AND TROPHY HAVE TO DO WITH THIS ARTICLE ?

  15. TiredOfIgnorance on October 2nd, 2014 10:22 am

It is sad the amount of people who are passing such harsh judgement here. “Why is mommy making lunch for you anyway?” Haven’t you had lunch cooked by your mother after you were of legal age? My mother would love to make a quick lunch for me if I stopped by for lunch or visa versa. Why she was making him lunch isn’t of any issue here. Please, open up your eyes. It’s very apparent here that the kid has some sort of mental disorder or is on drugs. Oh, and the comment about if his mom had whipped his little hiney. Let it be known that you can raise a child in a well disciplined home and the child will develop into their own person one day. Bad people do not necessarily come from bad parents. Quit judging and hope that they get this boy the help he needs and kudos to the mother for standing up for what was right and not covering it up! I feel bad for her reading this and watching all of you judge her and yet all that you know of the story is what is printed here. Shame on you!

I had more respect for my mother to ever even say a bad word in her presents. At that age I was in the military. This man needs a good attitude adjustment and parents use to give you one if you deserved it.What happened to respect for your parents?

  17. jeeperman on October 2nd, 2014 9:57 am

He was not in jail long enough to sample the meals that await him.
But a $100 bond tells me he will not see one whole day in a cell.
He will get pre-trial diversion instead.

  18. countrygirl on October 2nd, 2014 9:00 am

bet your mama wishes she had whooped your hiney more when you were younger!!!

  19. Lifendason on October 2nd, 2014 8:14 am

@Gembeaux, you get TWO THUMBS UP as that is exactly what today’s society is teaching our kids in public schools.

  20. terri sanders on October 2nd, 2014 8:12 am

Let’s remember this judges name….also this young man.’s name…I’d bet before too long he will be back in jail…maybe for something more serious than threatening someone with a knife…

  21. Oversight on October 2nd, 2014 8:02 am

19 years old… Cook is own darn food is what I say.

  22. Gembeaux on October 2nd, 2014 7:58 am

    This family needs prayer.
When schools and popular culture teach that everyone is entitled to whatever they want, when every kid gets a trophy just for (usually) showing up, this is what you get.

  23. SFC on October 2nd, 2014 7:37 am

I hope he likes the lunch in the E.C. Jail.

  24. Pop on October 2nd, 2014 7:13 am

OMG! What’s wrong with society today? All this over a bad lunch! He needs to be locked up and throw the keys away.

  25. Jake on October 2nd, 2014 7:12 am

I agree that this is very disturbing. However, what is also disturbing is that so many of you are always quick to judge. This kid could be suffering from an undiagnosed mental disorder and this mother could’ve been enabling for all we know. How about we keep our biased judgments to ourselves until all facts come out. If he is mentally ill in some way, please get him some help. If he isn’t, throw him under the jail. You don’t treat your momma like that!!!

  26. Monica Miller on October 2nd, 2014 6:48 am

Well now….I hope the county food is more suiting of his palette. Ramen noodles and honey buns enjoy!!

  27. joani on October 2nd, 2014 6:48 am

Whew! Glad I was a good cook.

  28. century on October 2nd, 2014 6:45 am

I used to babysit this boy he was the sweetest child and his mom babysat for me as he hit 16 he got mixed up with the wrong crowd doing things he had no buisness doing did a little time in juvenile and I really had high hopes for him… Teresa you have put up with more than enough you can only take so much love you both sometimes you just have to give a wake up call #proud of you so sad to see someone with so much potential act so careless

  29. A Mom on October 2nd, 2014 6:32 am

To the mom, you did the right thing by locking him up, sometimes people should have tough love, but some people just take & take & make excuses, you’re getting him the help he needs.

  30. fred on October 2nd, 2014 6:09 am

I know we all want him confined and controlled for now, but it is also important to have him evaluated for mental illness. He could have some serious issues that could be helped. His behavior is horrible, but that can be a manifestation of bipolar disorder or some other illness. He apparently hasn’t hurt anyone yet, please get him some help and let’s keep it that way.
Good for mom to have the fortitude to get him confined and protect herself.

  31. Jane on October 2nd, 2014 5:50 am

My sympathy to his mother. Keep him in jail!

  32. jason on October 2nd, 2014 5:04 am

    Wow… what was for lunch?

  33. worried on October 2nd, 2014 4:08 am

wow! I am sorry a mom had to take that. And I’ve cooked some bad food, glad hubby put up with it.

  34. Ponch on October 2nd, 2014 3:13 am

You’re a discrace to all sons. At 19 years of age, why is mommy making lunch for you anyway? Get your lazy butt up and make HER some lunch and be appreciative that she still allows(ed) you to live in her home.

Once you get a taste of the lunch that will be prepared for you in jail, that “mommy made” lunch is going to make your mouth water.

    How repulsive!!!

  35. just me on October 2nd, 2014 1:42 am

Wow, what happened to that sweet boy you use to be???? I pray to God that you will straighten up and do right.

  36. So sad on October 2nd, 2014 12:50 am

So sad a mother had to have her son locked up.
