Century: New Showalter Park Playground On The Way, Plans For Splash Pad

October 20, 2014

Century -Heart and Soul: This is the first is a two-week series on NorthEscambia.comĀ  featuring Century.

The Town of Century is set to order a new playground for Showalter Park using a $50,000 state grant, and the town will apply for another grant to add a splash pad.

Century received the $50,000 from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. Tonight, the town council is expected to approve the playground purchase from bidder J.A. Dawson & Co., as recommended by the Century Recreation Committee.

The labor to demolish the existing playground andĀ  install the new equipment will be provided by the town, saving grant dollars and allowing for the purchase of more equipment.

The town is also applying for a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant to install a splash pad at Showalter Park.

FRDAP is a competitive program which provides grants to local governments for outdoor recreational projects. The grants are administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

I hope this will be a great place for the children to come and play, We need this for our town. We need something also for the teenagers to do and look forward to on the weekends. I love living here and hope we do see progress on new businesses here. My neighbors and I on Front St look out for each other and we help when we can.
