Man Gets Prison Time After Young Child Drinks Acid At Meth Lab

September 20, 2014

A man has been sentenced to prison after a young child drank acid from a sippy cup at a Santa Rosa County meth lab.

A jury found Jonathan Wayne Glass, 38, guilty of  child neglect causing great bodily harm, permanent disability or permanent disfigurement.  Immediately following the trial, Santa Rosa County Circuit Court Judge John F. Simon sentenced Glass to 15 years state prison.

On February 20, 2013, Glass brought sulfuric acid into a residence he shared with a woman and her three children at Piney Woods Place Apartments in  Milton. Glass brought the acid into the residence so that he could use it during the process of manufacturing methamphetamine. The acid had been placed into a small plastic cup with a screw-on lid with a straw attached to it. Glass left the cup of acid on a bathroom counter where a 3-year old child drank the acid while brushing his teeth.

Although there was a hospital within three miles of the residence and Glass had a working vehicle and an access to a telephone, he failed to seek medical attention for the child and instructed another child who was present in the residence during the incident not to call 911.

A neighbor who heard screaming and the sound of a child moaning coming from the Glass’ apartment called 911. The 3-year old child was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital. As a result of drinking the sulfuric acid, the child suffered severe chemical burns to his chin, lips, mouth, tongue, esophagus, and hands. The child was initially treated in the emergency room; however he was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit due to the severity of for several weeks following the incident.

Glass is also facing drug charges which include trafficking in methamphetamine and  trafficking in hydrocodone. He will be back in court October 20.

    at molino girl:
We as parents can raise our children right from wrong but it is their choose to go the way they want. We can only hope and pray that they go the right way and that the children they have will not suffer in the process. And if they do we as grandparents will be there for these helpless children.

Even lethal injection is too good for this _______ (fill in the blank with your choice of adjective/noun). Judge needs to make him drink a gallon of sulfuric acid and writhe until he dies. Then dump in him a hole & cover him up & forget about him.

The mother of the child should go to prison just like the animal who brought the acid to the house. But not for 15 years.LIFE.

Remember when we kept all cleaning products on a top shelf where the kids couldn’t see or reach them? I don’t want to read how well raised this guy was raised Where was the little boy’s mother when that happened? Sad that these kids have to live in such a dangerous situation. I pray the little boy recovered.

what a sad time we live in today…when drugs flow freely and children suffer for the stupid choices of weak, sick minded people….you pick up the paper and see where children are exposed to violent and dangerous situations…every day we see this…so many families are suffering and trying to get help for their loved ones …some find their way back to a drug free life but the numbers are few….the meth is rampant all over our communities….it seems to be the drug of choice…I have watched a mother of three…loose her children, her husband and most of her family…she suffers with a body that was once beautiful and strong…she is reduced to life with a body of sickness and sores….her vital organs are now hanging on by a thread….we know it is only a matter of time before she smokes the meth and it will be her last…..she knows she is only a breath away from dying …..she is not strong and so we know …this could be her last day….help us pray for this young woman….her only answer is God.

This shows the destructive influence this poisonous drug has…the scumbag producing it should have got life in prison… the 15 years he got is a joke, justice was not served.

Unbelievable… Johnathan was raised by two strong Christian parents, with the joy of lots of love and strong family values…It’s sad to see that poor choices have affected so many people, including himself, his family, and this poor innocent child…Although I don’t wish incarceration on anyone, I hope that this will give him time to wake up and realize what drugs have done to both his family and his life…

Any update on the child’s condition.? Understand all the information protection stuff but many of us are hoping and praying for a better outcome than can be imagined.

BOTH this dude and the mom need to have their butts locked up for a VERY long time.

@Honest John, my question too, “What about the mom….”?
What sort of human allows a child to suffer and be in pain without trying to get help for them?

Dear God, what is this world coming to..?
Drugs are more important than people’s children.?

He needs longer time then 15 years that poor child will now suffer it’s whole life with medical issues. He needs Life for harming child.

Wow… I grew up for a short time with Johnathon. Never in a million years thought he’d ever go this way in life. Manufacturing meth, harming a child with most likely lasting complications from drinking drain-o… I say give him another 15-20.
