The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office says a lamp in an upstairs apartment sparked a blaze Wednesday at the Briarwood Condominiums on East Olive Road.
Now, eight units have been condemned as a result of the blaze, forcing people to find a new place to live. And there are no other available units in the complex.
There were no injuries in the blaze.

A total of 20 units are condemned as a result. The 16 of the main building and 2 on each end. While many of them received no damage, the fact that they share a roof condemned them all.
The lamps are rated on a sticker at the base where the lightbulb screws in. Many are rated 75 watts so putting in a 100 watt bulb is asking for overheating. This is on overhead fixtures also We have to protect ourselves. A home fire is devastating and I hope the families involved will receive help.
>>How did the lamp do that? NEED to know.
The Fire Marshal’s office says the point of origin was traced to the lamp, but they don’t know yet if it was knocked over, the bulb busted, the electrical cord failed, etc.
