A pursuit that started in Santa Rosa County ended about 50 miles away in Atmore Friday night.

The chase began in Milton as a deputy with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F150 pickup truck near the intersection of Hamilton Bridge Road and Windham Road. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver sped off. The deputy was forced to take evasive action to avoid being struck by the vehicle, said Deputy Rich Aloy, spokesman for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The pursuit headed north through Santa Rosa County and crossed the Escambia River on Highway 4 into Century. The driver of the truck turned north on Highway 29 and crossed into Flomaton, Ala., and then headed west on Highway 31 out of Flomaton. The pickup driver continued with deputies in pursuit into Atmore.

According to witnesses, when the westbound driver spotted approaching Atmore Police Department officers, the suspect made a u-turn through a motel parking lot near Buster’s Restaurant and headed back east on Highway 31 before turning north on 18th Avenue just outside Atmore. The driver lost control and ran into a ditch and the end of 18th Avenue at the intersection of Carver Avenue.

During the pursuit the driver swerved several times in an attempt to strike other officers, Aloy said. There was no word of any injuries.

He said two people — a male and a female — were taken into custody. It was not immediately known which suspect was driving the pickup. Both were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton to await extradition back to Santa Rosa County where they are expected face felony charges.

Aloy said it was not clear why the driver fled the initial traffic stop or if there were any outstanding warrants on either suspect.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.

My daughter and I were on our way home from Century and saw the police car’s coming toward us, so we pulled off on the side of the road, Thank god we did, that blonde headed girl driving was more worried about looking back behind her than she was looking forward. She was all over the road.
I am thankful that nobody was injured.
One other note…… People if you see emergency lights coming toward you, pull over!!!!!! There was a van in front of us that did not bother. They endangered themselves as well as the law enforcement officers by not taking 2 minutes to pull on the side of the road.

The day when the law enforcement with original jurisdiction had to stop chasing at the county or state lines ended years & years ago with Smokey & The Bandit. Good job to all law enforcement. But the criminals will go in front of a “sympathetic judge” most likely. Now, “y’all promise y’all won’t do this again?”

I guess I had just missed the truck turning at the red light at 29 & 31 but I was there when the cops came and turned left onto Hwy. 31 there was EIGHT cop cares chasing them, I’m glad they were caught and that no one was hurt but EIGHT cop cars in the pursuit. Guess there were no other crimes going in Santa Rosa so all the cops joined in the chase.

Escambia County Fl does have the no chase law. But they were in Escambia Cpunty, Al. I know they are really lucky that no one was injured or killed and they escaped with their own lives in tact.

Why would you endanger so many lives chasing someone so far. You had the tag number. Thank God no one was killed.

My husband and I were traveling through Flomaton when the red pickup pulled into our lane my husband managed to pull off into the Flomaton school parking lot , the two suspects were moving at a fast rate of speed followed by the Santa Rosa county sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement agencies. What a way to start the weekend. Those two had no regard for anyone else on the road, luckily they did not kill anyone !!!

    >>I thought Escambia County, FL has a “no chase” rule now? So how were they being chased through Century?

That policy applies to Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies, who did not participate in the chase. They were chased through Century by Santa Rosa deputies who would have jurisdiction in the situation.

We, too, were at the intersection of 29 and 31 in flomaton. The female never slowed down to take the turn. I’m very surprised that no one was hurt.

The truck and 3 deputies passed me on Willard Norris road. Then 3 more deputies passed me on Chumuckla Hwy, I was very impressed with SRSO they were very safety conscious in performing their duties. Reason for saying this is I felt safe and was proud of the officers protecting Santa Rosa county.

We were almost hit on Berryhill Rd in Milton. My only question is why in the world did it take so long to get them stopped??!

    Adrenaline.

I wonder if the female was a victim, a confederate or just along for the ride?

Glad no innocent people or officers were hurt during this chase. But, I can say this….its a wonder they didn’t kill themselves instead of going into the ditch. 18th Ave/Carver Ave is nothing but one big pot hole. You actually do better driving in the ditch rather than the road. It is gonna cause another accident if the county does not pave it. They always throw asphalt into the pot holes, but that does no good. The next wreck will be some innocent people and they won’t be so lucky.

Female was driving. I was at the Texaco on Hwy29 and Hwy31 when she came by and turned toward Atmore. She never slowed down at the intersection, thank goodness there was no traffic there when she came through because it would have been an ugly crash!!!!
