Messy Situation Shuts Down Highway For Six Hours

August 6, 2014

A messy situation shutdown Highway 31  on the west side of Flomaton for about six hours Tuesday afternoon.

A John Deere spreader being driven from Atmore to Samson, Ala., ruptured a hydraulic hose and spilled several gallons of hydraulic fluid over a quarter-mile stretch of Highway 31.  The spill was cleaned up by the Flomaton Fire Department and the Century Station of Escambia Fire Rescue.

There were no injuries in the incident.

    Ellenb and Dennis:

This particular model will run 50mph so it would maintain minimum interstate speed however it is safer to stay off interstate with something like this as we can see!

Reminds me of the current country song where the singer takes the back roads, and says “if there’s a traffic jam, it better be a tractor, man.”

Ellenb-it is. Can’t maintain minimum interstate speed.

Wow. That is a long trip to take on a spreader. Close to 100 miles!

If he was driving that thing from Atmore to Samson, why was he on 31 coming to Flomaton? Guess he was trying to drive 31 the whole way, maybe it’s illegal to drive such on the interstate.
