John Shiver, Jr.

Mr. John Shiver, Jr., 93, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014, in Atmore.

Mr. Shiver was a native of Perdido and resident of Atmore for the past 90 years. Mr. Shiver was member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore. He was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and owner and operator of Shiver’s Auto Service. He was a veteran of World War II, was in over 75 European combat missions as a flight engineer and gunner from 1942 to 1945. He served in the 8th AF, 9th AF, 12th AF and 15th AF in North Africa and Italy.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle Shiver.

Survivors include his son, Jeff (Laura) Shiver of West Lafayette, IN; daughter, Martha (David) Walker of Atmore; one brother, Larry Shiver of Atmore; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014, from 10 a.m. until service time at the First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Jim Staff, David Smith, Billy Wayne Brannum, Jimmy Coker, Arnold Amos and Wayne Dean.

Honorary pallbearers will be VFW members.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes is in charge of all arrangements.
