Two Cantonment Residents Caught Burglarizing Barn

July 25, 2014

Two Cantonment residents were arrested after being caught stealing metal and equipment from a barn in the Cottage Hill area.

John Henry Shiffner III, age 19, was charged with felony burglary and felony grand theft.  He remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond due to probation violation charge.  A 16-year old juvenile was also charged in connection with the incident and released into the custody of the Department of Youth Services.

A man at his mother’s home on Williams Ditch Road observed Shiffner and the juvenile walking away from a barn. It was discovered, according to an arrest report, that the duo had moved hundreds of pounds of heavy equipment and metals from the barn to a path that borders one side of the property.

When deputies caught up with Shiffner and the juvenile a short time later,  both completed written, sworn confessions, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court records, Shiffner was on probation at the time of his arrest this week after being convicted for of aggravated battery and disorderly public intoxication.

Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a drunken public disturbance in the intersection of Mayo and Front streets in Century in October 2013. Shiffner’s girlfriend, who is two and a half months pregnant with his child, said he had pushed her, causing her to land on her back on the ground. She refused medical treatment.

When deputies tried to question Shiffner in the back of their patrol vehicle during the October incident, he began yelling at his girlfriend. When deputies explained her claim that he had pushed her, “he stated he did not touch her and then began rambling on about how Obama is right,” deputies reported.

“Obama said cops always listen to women,” Shiffner said, according to his arrest report.

    CONTEMPLATING:
“He is not a bad person”???

He’s just a person who preys on others by stealing from them?

    You are what you do.
    You do what you are.

He did a bad thing, therefor ….

    David for seeing the truth

While I agree he needs to be in a more legal line of work, for one he does not HAVE a baby to take care of. They are NOT together and she denies any.of that every happened. As far as now. He has made bad choices but he.is not a bad person. This.is just a good example of what happens when people DONT raise their children or show love like they should. When abusive boyfriends are more important and a kid has to spend his life fighting and trying to survive. His family loves him both the boys involved and Hope they start heading down the right path.

    Marshall,
It also alerts you to every time a cat, dog, possum, armidillo, bear, panther or squirrel walks by.

People, especially out in the County like Cantonment, are going to get tired of this crap and just start shooting people. I hate to see anyone die over stuff in a garage, but if they keep up, they get what they ask for.

I have one thing that I totally recommend for helping secure your area outside. I have four of these in use and they work as advertised. You do not have to monitor just a driveway, and I do not work for Harbor Freight. It is there Driveway Monitor and it has an Infrared Motion Sensor for outside and a Alarm Unit for inside. It will pick up motion in the area where you set the outside monitor. The inside is loud enough, on High, to wake you if something comes in range of the sensor. It is well worth it, especially to monitor vehicles, carport or shed.

He is so right about the cops–MALE always listening and believing the woman because some have the idea if they put the male part of the domestic situation in jail they will gain favor and might gain favor in another way upon a return trip. It happens very often in this area as well as all over the country–like the one just recently fired for the same thing but called it consensual.

someone broke into my car last night and stole my car charger. I know this seems petty but this is the 3rd incident at my house since February. I am beyond angry! What is wrong with people, I don’t have much (and even less since my home was broken into) but I go to work and pay for everything I own so losers can still it from me.

Thought he looked familar. He’s got a little more hair in this picture. The baby would have been born in April of this year. He needs to start looking for a better way to support it.

    Red,
we as a country can not make that kind of decision. We as individuals have to decide. I doubt this genius will honor our decisions any more than he honored the owner’s property rights.

Hopefully his girlfriend starts making better plans for the future life of her baby.

We as a country need to look within ourselves and just ask is this the way we want to live? We need to start respecting other people, other people’s property and if you leave me alone, I will leave you alone and this would be a much better and hapier place to live. We could get back to the roots of our great country. We all need to grow up and understan we all live here together, like it or not.
